Quantity Vs. Quality

I know a lot of people may think that to be a good writer, you have to write a lot- which is true. Writing is a skill like any other and takes practice. You don't just sit down and bust out a masterpiece in thirty minutes, it doesn't work like that.

But even if you write every little, it doesn't mean it's trash or not worth your time. Sometimes old pieces can be reworked into something better. You might have had a good idea that was going places, but ended up going in the wrong direction. (And editing is okay. Editing is not your enemy.)

So just because someone you know writes more than you do, doesn't mean you aren't a good writer. Quantity does not equal quality. That means, the amount someone writes does not mean they're a good writer.

This is your sign/affirmation thing that it's okay if you don't write a lot. This is also your sign/affirmation that you should go back and edit your work if you write a lot- I can guarantee you that your writing has improved since your first draft or chapter, so go back and fix your mistakes.

I'll be honest with you, I first started writing almost four years ago (I didn't have Wattpad yet by the way) and let me tell you- I wrote a lot, but just because I thought it was good then, doesn't mean it's good now. Sometimes things you thought were a good idea fade out and don't hold up between six months ago and now.

And that's okay.

Ideas shift and change, like your writing style. I first learned story writing by copying- and yes, fan fiction is a good place to start when you want to write. (I'll expand more on that later.) And at first, yes, imposter syndrome will hit you. But then you start to develop your own ideas (even if they aren't original) and your writing style will follow. Your style of writing develops last, and that goes for a lot of things- take drawing for example (this probably isn't true for everyone, but it's true for me). You first learn by copying, then using references, then you have your own art style. Writing is very similar to that. So it just takes time.

I wish all of you lovelies happy writing! Make sure you take breaks, drink water, or have a snack though. ^w^
