I groan as my phone begins to ring. Groggily, I answer it; sounding like I've had been screaming in a fire for hours.

"Hello?"

"We need you out of Route 5. Five miles passed out town limit. I'll text the address." My boss rushes out.

"That's not our jurisdiction." I sleepily reply.

"They called for help. You're our crime scene specialist. So you're needed Phoebe." She explains.

"I'll be there in ten minutes." I comments as I hop out of bed.

"That's a twenty minute drive plus you're not even dressed." She says in disbelief.

"Already dressed. Heading out now." I tell her as I slip my boots on.

"Be careful Phoebe." Is all she says before she hangs up.

By the time I make it to my car; my phone pings. I glance down at the address and my body begins to shutter.

Old man Jenkins farmhouse.

That family is one backwoods hillbilly, hills have eyes kind of family. Did one of them go on a killing spree and decide to eat their own family members and their dogs?

As I drive out out of my neighborhood; I flip my lights on. I punch the gas pedal and begin to speed off towards route 5. I'm a blur going through our town center. As I turn right onto route 5; I'm immediately behind Engine 51 and Tanker 1.

Where the hell is the fire department going?

When we hit the town line, I realize we're heading to the same scene. What in Jiminy Crickets is going on? As we get to the three mile mark passed our town; all you can see is a burning bright light and smoke clouding a massive area in the distance. The fire department races even faster than before down route 5. I'm still on their ass like fly on cow's shit.

By the time we hit the five mile mark; all three of us turn right up the long driveway leading to Old Man Jenkins farmhouse.

And the burning inferno.....

I park a short distance from the fire department and step out. I'm greeted by my boss, my fellow police officers, and my crime scene team. The driver in Engine 51 steps out and I'm instantly frozen in my spot.

Grayson.

Out of all our town's firefighters in the department; he's the one that comes!

Why?!

Everyone around me is talking but my mind is fogged over as I watch Grayson in his turnout gear rushes towards the burning structure with his department members. I watch as he holds the hose and water sprays out of it. If it wasn't for the burning house; the scene in front of me would be magical.
The butterflies in my stomach begin to flutter around.
