Betty tucks some hair behind her ear as her free hand plays with the handle of the porcelain coffee cup on the table in front of her.

Across from her sits her best friend, and she watches while the brunette types away on her phone, a smirk adorning her lips.

The blonde releases a deep breath causing Toni to look at her briefly then back to her phone.

"Okay, what has you smiling that hard? We've been sitting in silence for the past 20 minutes."

Toni looks up while locking her phone. "It's nothing. I was just talking to Sabrina about our practice run last week."

"And you were smiling? I mean, I know that you love your job and all, but it doesn't make you that happy." Betty presses, picking up her coffee cup to take a sip of the warm beverage.

The brunette gazes down at her lap for a moment while exhaling through her nose lightly. "Okay...fine...but don't tease me for it."

"Tease you for it? Why would...never mind. Tell me!" the actress sits up as excitement bubbles within her.

"So..." Toni chuckles lightly while biting her lip. "Cheryl and I are...cool again." she rubs the back of her neck nervously. "I mean, we're friends."

"Really?" Betty raises her eyebrows in shock. "So I'm guessing the party went well then?" she then smirks.

"Shut up." her best friend nudges her foot under the table. "It's not like that. We've been...cool."

"Cool as in?"

"I don't know." the woman concedes. "I don't want to conclude anything or like, assume. But we've been talking and staying in touch. It's...nice."

"Ohhhh! And you yelled at me for 'trying to play matchmaker." Betty gestures quotation marks while mocking the athlete's voice.

"I do not sound like that!" Toni defends.

"Oh, but you do," Betty smirks. "But I'm so happy that you and Cheryl are friends, that's one more person to invite to my party next week."

"Oh no." Toni frowns.

"Yes! It'll be so good! Plus, Cheryl may need a little night to herself. And Veronica is coming, so she won't be all alone." the blonde tries to reason.

"B, no way. She and I are finally becoming comfortable with each other again, I don't want to jeopardize that." the brown-skin beauty reaches for the plate of pastries in the middle of the table.

"And how would you inviting her jeopardize your newly rebuilt friendship...again?"

"Well, she'll see it as me trying to ask her out. And I'm not trying to ask her out. I–I mean, I am, but I–well...I will when–fuck! I'm just not going to invite her."

Betty giggles at the latter's sense of frustration. "Okay then..." she teases. "How about I get Vero to ask her? Would that be weird?"

Toni thinks for a moment before sighing. "Why do you want her there anyway?"

"As I said before, another person to invite to my banging birthday bash." the aqua green-eyed beauty hums while shrugging, her fingertip circling the rim of the glass cup afore her.

"Okay...fine, I'll ask her. But you gotta promise not to make this whole thing a big deal!" Toni bargains.

"I promise."

"I'm not kidding, B." the brunette gives her a pointed look. The blonde rolls her eyes playfully while laughing. "I promise," she states once more, looking the athlete in the eye.
