Morningpaw POV
"Come on, Berrypaw. Let's practice fighting." Morningpaw ran into the Apprentice Den to find his brother.
He was still fast asleep, much to Morningpaw's annoyance. He didn't want to wake his brother though, he didn't take the news about their mother well and hadn't been as energetic for a while.
But it had been three moons! And Morningpaw wanted to play with his brother again. While Berrypaw was like this, he'd busied himself with training. He knew his brother was made to train on a few occasions but not as frequently as himself.
"Berrypaw." Morningpaw nudged him.
Berrypaw moved slightly but his eyes didn't open.
"Allow me."
Morningpaw turned and quickly rolled put of the way as a ball of black fur darted past him and pounced onto Berrypaw.
"I'm up! I'm up!" Berrypaw shot awake, scrambling to his feet.
The black, tabby she-cat chuckled,"That's how you wake someone up, Morningpaw. You should take notes."
"Whatever you say, Kestrelpaw." Morningpaw sighed, turning to his brother.
Berrypaw shook the dust from his pelt and padded over to Morningpaw as a very proud Kestrelpaw left the den.
"Well? What did you need?" Berrypaw asked curiously,"Did dad call me?"
"Oh- no, no." Morningpaw shook his head,"I wanted to train with you, we could practice fighting."
"Are... You sure? I'm not very good at fighting." Berrypaw sighed,"I'm not good at much."
"But practice makes improvement." Morningpaw reminded him, repeating his mentor's words.
"Maybe I'm not cut out to be a Warrior- What if I let you down- What if I let everyone down-"
Morningpaw pressed his nose against his brother's and licked his ear,"Brother. You're alright."
Berrypaw leaned into Morningpaw's shoulder and rubbed against him. Morningpaw sighed softly, it was a hard sight to see, really.
"You don't need to come." Morningpaw told him,"I can just go with Roseclaw."
"Yeah... Maybe next time?" Berrypaw looked up at him.
"Of course, next time." Morningpaw nodded, parting from his brother.
Morningpaw turned and padded out of the den, pausing in the entrance when he heard a small voice.
"Sorry.."
"It's okay, really." Morningpaw assured him before he left, going on the hunt for his mentor.
He spotted her across camp speaking with Swiftstar and lowered himself to the ground as he slowly padded towards the russet she-cat.
When Morningpaw got close enough he pounced excitedly, landing on her fluffy tail. Roseclaw jumped in surprise and Swiftstar chuckled in amusement.
"What a fun Apprentice you have, Roseclaw." Swiftstar purred.
"He has potential." Roseclaw puffed her chest proudly,"Morningpaw is going to be a great Warrior one day."
"You really think so?" Morningpaw hopped excitedly.
"Of course, you're always so eager and ready. Always making improvements." Roseclaw looked down at him,"I presume you're ready to train?"
"Yes!" Morningpaw nodded eagerly.
"Swiftstar?" Roseclaw turned to him.
"You don't need to always ask for my permission, Roseclaw. Go." Swiftstar nodded to the camp entrance.
Roseclaw flicked her tail and padded towards the entrance and Morningpaw followed her. He was so excited to train today!
