Scott's stag galloped through the forest and came to a stop in the Crystal Cliffs. He didn't bother to knock this time, he just opened the door and took the stairs up to Gem's room.

"Hi Scott," Gem said without looking up from the book she was reading in front of the fireplace. Scott sat down next to her and she looked up. Then she gasped and stared at him as if he was a ghost.

"What have you been doing?"

"What do you mean?"

"You have bitemarks on your neck!"

"Oh, that," Scott said. He went a deeper blue and tugged his collar higher up.

"In my defence I thought he'd bite low enough that I would be able to cover it."

"Who bit you?"

"How is that any of your business?"

"It's Sausage isn't it?"

"Yeah."

"Oh my goodness, you're basically married now!" Gem said and bounced in place.

"No we're not! He just needed some blood so he wouldn't lose his powers!" Scott argued and blushed harder.

"I've let you bite me before because you cried about not wanting to kill anything."

"You killed me so it's only fair. Also did you offer your blood or did he ask?"

"I offered it, why?"

"Scott!!" Gem yelled.

"That's as flirty as you can get with a vampire without taking your clothes off!"

"Oh," Scott said, and went an even deeper shade of blue.

"I uhm... I forgot about that."

"I also think he has ownership of you now if he wants that, kind of in the same way you would if he took anything from Rivendell," Gem laughed.

"No he doesn't, he's a dhampir, not a vampire."

"Well I guess that's a loophole."

Scott sighed and leaned back on the couch. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad if Sausage technically owned him, especially not if he wanted more of his blood. He shook the thought from his head as Gem spoke again.

"Won't he know you're an elf now then? If he tasted your blood?"

"I think he enjoyed it too much to notice anything," Scott shrugged. Gem rolled her eyes.

"I mean he's as dense as a rock, so probably," she said hopelessly.

"But you have to tell him at some point."

"Why?"

"You can't just stay disguised forever! Not if you want to know him as anything more than a stranger."

"It's fine, I'll tell him one day," Scott said dismissively.

"When?" Gem asked impatiently.

"I don't know, not right now, I don't know if he'll take it well."

"He's friends with two vampires, Scott."

"I still don't know!"

Gem rolled her eyes, but Scott ignored her.

"Anyway, one of my friends needs some regen potions for an adventure she's going on, do you have any to spare?"

"Oh, yeah probably. Let's go down to the apothecary and see."

It was almost midnight as Sausage left the tavern, still feeling lost in the taste of the blood that lingered in his mouth. The thought that Scott was definitely not human, just based on how good his blood tasted, was equally intriguing and worrying to Sausage. It was almost more scary than the weird creature he had seen in the woods and outside his window, because at least whatever that was wasn't trying to hide anything from him. Probably. They also didn't make him feel so confused and lost in his own feelings, the feeling of dread and paranoia it brought was at least familiar, but the emotions Scott made him feel were not.

He pushed open the gates to the castle absentmindedly, looking over his shoulder at a small gathering of hares that were staring at him, closed the gates behind him and looked up. Deep red eyes sunk far into the skull of something awful stared back at him, and he screamed and fell backwards against the gates. The thing tilted their head and laughed in a horribly distorted voice, the red flame within them flickered and cast weird shadows all over the walls. Sausage felt frozen to the spot again and he felt the smell of ash and rotting flesh fill the air, but he somehow didn't feel scared, aside from the jumpscare the thing had given him.

"Who are you?" he asked. The creature didn't move but they vanished from the spot and Sausage jumped up.

"Hey, come back! I want to talk to you! Are you some kind of demon?"

"Maybe," a deep and distorted voice growled and Sausage spun around, but they were nowhere to be seen.

"Oh! That's cool, why are you hiding?" Sausage yelled. He didn't really know how or why, but this demon thing seemed much less scary than Scott did. They were even a little fun with the way they teleported around.

"I never hide," the demon growled from right behind him. He jumped and spun around, but they weren't there.

"Where did you go?"

There was no answer, and the dread that had crept up Sausage's spine and into his ribs started to fade away. He looked through the entire castle with the enthusiastic help of Bubbles (though she seemed to think the carpet was the demon and started attacking it) but couldn't find any trace of them.

The next day, Sausage was awoken by a black dove repeatedly smacking into his window with a letter in its beak, which it dropped and picked up again every time it hit the window. Sausage hurried to open the window and the bird flew in and landed on the floor, looking a little lost and dazed. He took the letter and found a bunch of notes written in Fwhip handwriting, though considerably shakier and it looked like it had been written in a hurry.

"Sausage helpme theres something bad in the grimmlands it's tryig to kill me please help"

Sausage looked up at the dazed dove on the floor.

"Is this urgent or is he dramatic?" he asked. The dove shook its head and flew up, grabbed the collar of his pyjamas and started frantically trying to drag him out of the room.

"Oh! So it's actually urgent, let me get dressed!"

Dandelion came to such a sudden stop outside Grimmland's gates that Sausage was almost thrown off head first into the wall. He fell off her back without hurting himself that much and ran through the gates.

He saw Gem outside the storage room, where she seemed to be talking soothingly to a piano that was part of the pile of furniture that barricaded the storage room closed.

"It chased me everywhere and told me to run over and over again, I hate it I hate it I hate it," said a very shaky voice from inside the piano.

"It's okay Fwhip, he's not here anymore," Gem said and tried to open the piano's lid but a pair of coal-covered hands with messy black and red nail polish stuck out of it and slammed it shut again.

"Who was here?" Sausage asked, staring back and forth from Gem and the piano.

"Fwhip says there was a demon," Gem sighed.

"Oh! The one with huge antlers and black fur and a deer skull on their face?"

"Yes? You know them?" Fwhip said and peeked out of the piano.

"Yes! I just met them yesterday!" Sausage said excitedly.

"They're fun!"

"Okay, so you're scared of a normal guy because you think he's cute, but you don't think that thing is scary?" Fwhip asked and Gem snorted with laughter.

"Listen," Sausage tried to defend himself.

"I don't know what he is! I don't know why I can't see what he is and what he wants and that's scary!"

"Hang on, so there's an actual demon around?" Gem said nervously.

"At least two!"

"Shut up about Scott for two minutes!"

"I don't know, they seemed powerful enough to be a demon," Fwhip said as he absentmindedly climbed out of the piano.

"They teleported me around and blinded me, that's how I ended up in uhm..."

"In the piano?" Gem sighed.

"He made a bunch of lava pools too, I'm just glad I didn't end up in there."

"Ohhh! So they can teleport things that aren't themselves too, and make lava! That's so cool, do you think Scott can-"

"Sausage."

"It's been almost two minutes!""It hasn't even been one!"
