Here's a collection of all the poems I wrote in 2022! It was actually a lot more than I expected, because fiction is my usual writing style of choice, but I wanted to learn more about poetry and get better at writing it. Many of these I wrote over my workshop in poetry class I took the past fall for my last semester before graduating, so several of them are quite important to me. They cover many different things, are written in many different styles, and do not have a set theme for all of them. Some poems I wrote for class, some I wrote for private pleasure, and one other I wrote for a poetry competition.

Duality

In this world, there exists
things of beauty
things of ugliness

Those who are closest to us
support us in our hard times
cradle and comfort us

Humans cannot live without the connection of others
we need it as much as food or water
but human nature is a fickle beast

Those who stand above others
or at least believe so
casting their ideals upon us

Preach from one side of the mouth
spit from the other

Either end can be a friend
or a foe

Because humans are a duality
black and white
yin and yang
darkness and light
two sides of the same coin

Elegy for Shinku Kurenai (fictional elegy poem inspired by Scarlet Reflection)

Even the blossoming flowers
Will eventually scatter
Who in our world
Is unchanging?

Just like spring flowers
You came and went
Gracing me with your beauty
Breaking me with your fall

Thrusting me into frozen winter
The barren white of loneliness
The world has lost color
Without you

Your hair was scarlet flames
Your eyes burning coals
Raging with passion
Flame snuffed out too soon

You moved like a knife
Delicate dance with a sword
Swift, yet graceful
Talent worth killing for

Gone in the physical
But not in the heart
Lost in your shadow
I will never forget

Your smile
Your kiss
Your love
Your soul

Become the brightest flame
So bright that I may see you in the stars.

Shall We Dance

Shall we dance?
Come with me, my dear
Wipe away every tear
Join me in hand
I shall take you to a faraway land.

Shall we dream?
My heart tears at the seams
Aching for you, what a rotten gleam
Don't look away from me
My soul shall bleed.

Shall we smile?

Follow me for every mile
Racing with quickened feet

My love is fleet

And soon, so shall you be.

Delicate Dreams

Now I lay me down to sleep
when I awake, dreams lost so deep
no more love in happy things
waking life has broke my wings.

Escape to paradise unaware
none in reality can compare
fleeting dreams of sweet and sour
before my waking brain devour.

I think that I shall never know
in real life a brighter glow
as the shimmer of my dreams
when eyes open at the seams.
