SONG REQUEST FOR THIS CHAPTER: CHERRY WINE by HOZIER
1,035 Words (For those of you who have been reading my current book, Dauntless, you will know that The Walking Dead is a gory and sometimes depressing show, so I thought I would give you all something sweet before I get back to the intense book)
Do you ever have one of those feelings where you have anxiety over something you know will probably end well, but are still scared of the outcome? Yeah, I'm having one of those right now. Bucky asked me to get dressed up for the summer and meet him on the grounds of the compound outside. I'm assuming he wants to spend time together after the ruling 2-week-long mission we endured with Sam, Steve, and Natasha recently, but I'm not sure what he's getting at. We need to go straight back to a mission later tonight, and we won't have time to sit around and chill. Either way, I trust him and, honestly, I could use a break.
The grass outside is empty as far as I can see, and I go back into the archives of my mind to try and remember if Bucky did actually tell me to meet him on the grounds. I don't think I'm going crazy, I'm pretty sure he said outside. If not, at least I got dressed for the summer just as he said. He did say that, right? God, I'm so tired from the mission that I think my brain is shutting off. If this is a moment to chill with Bucky, then I really need it.
"Y/N!"
I turn my head in the direction of the voice, seeing movement behind a tree. Walking over to the movement, the closer I get, the more I see. Lying on the grass is a blanket from the living room, flat and filled with treats. Bucky sits on the end of the blanket, a wicker basket, lid open, and I can see two wine glasses and a bottle inside. I had expectations, but not this.
"Bucky, this is lovely." I sit down next to him.
"You look beautiful, Y/N."
"I bet you said that to all the ladies back in the day," I smirk.
"Well, I only mean it with you."
He reaches into the basket, pulling out the glasses and handing me one. Instead of using a bottle opener, he uses his metal hand to twist and pull the cork out of the top of the bottle, placing it into the basket. I'm not going to pretend that that isn't the hottest thing I've seen today, I am a woman after all. He can see the blush creeping up my neck and smirks as he pours me a generous glass of red liquid. He knows exactly what he does to me.
"I know we have a mission later, but I could see how tired you are. I thought you might want to be away from all the mission talk and sit here and have dinner with me."
"God," I groan. "If I have to hear one more word about good-cop-bad-cop from Tony, I think I'm going to throttle him."
"I can tell." He laughs.
He reaches over the blanket, grabs a chocolate strawberry and lifts it to my face. He may want to deny it, but he was definitely a ladies-man in his forties, and it continuously shows when he is with me. I take a bite out of the strawberry, my lips touching the stalk and I chew the delicious treat. He knows how much I love chocolate strawberries. I do the same as he did, feeding him a strawberry, but instead, he grabs my wrist, kissing the back of my hand, the kisses travelling down my wrist and arm until he gets to my neck. The kisses may not have intended to get me riled up, but they most definitely did. I can't help the moan that slips out of my lips when he kisses the perfect spot. He pulls back, his signature smirk plastered on his face. Never mind, he definitely intended to rile me up.
"I didn't know I had such an effect on ya."
"Smug asshole." I scoff.
"It's nice to know I can get you moaning like that from just a kiss to the neck."
"Don't start something you can't finish, Buck."
He laughs as he takes a sip of wine, watching me do the same. I haven't been able to drink at all for a while, or surprisingly, Tony hasn't had a spontaneous party at all, so the taste of the wine makes my eyes roll to the back of my head. Once again, Bucky can see the effect all of this is having on me and is ecstatic. We continue to feed each other different types of food, taking sips of wine in between. Sandwiches, chocolates, chips, and fries. When we aren't eating, we are talking. Or better said, teasing each other. Since we got with each other, Bucky has come out of his shell. His love language, if not touch, is teasing comments. I can tell when he is in a good mood when he teases me about something harmless, and he knows when I take the teasing when I throw one right back.
It's a really nice evening, or at least it was before Steve and Sam decided to interrupt it by running over and calling out our names. Bucky looks defeated when the date is interrupted but smiles as they both approach us. Sam has a wide smirk on his face that he isn't trying to hide, and Steve wears a warm smile. Out of the two Steve was the happiest when he knew we finally got together after too much pining. Sam, on the other hand, was happy he could tease us both as we were pretty much inseparable instead of running around the compound to find us.
"We're getting ready to leave soon," Steve says. "Sorry to interrupt, but you need to get dressed and grab your weapons."
"Don't be staying here to get it one, you two." Sam teases. "We need both of you able to walk for this mission. And, whatever it is that you do to ro-bo cop that makes him temporarily drunk with a lopsided smile on his face isn't going to help us."
"Shut up, Sam." Bucky groans.
"We'll be on the jet in 20." I stop whatever argument is brewing.
"Sorry again." Steve leaves, Sam following behind.
I help Bucky pack up the blanket and food into the basket, holding his hand as we walk back into the compound. I know he is sad that the date was cut short, but the small time we spent together has relaxed me enough that I can perform my best on the mission tonight.
"Thank you, Bucky," I stop him. "I really needed this. It was amazing."
"I'm glad you liked it, doll." He kisses my cheek.
