CHAPTER ONE
Mr Perfect
HAWKINS HAD ALWAYS BEEN A SMALL, QUIET TOWN, everyone knew everyone and gossip travelled fast. It was the same way when Joyce Byers was talking to her Christmas lights in search for her missing kid. Or when Murray was ranting on about the underground Russian experiments, becoming the town nutjob. Things that seemed so private were common knowledge in this town, especially with richer residents, they were like celebrities, and constantly the focal point of meaningless townie gossip.
Whether it was the Harringtons going on the seventh trip of the year, or the Wheelers new living room renovation. It spread like wild fire through the ears of whoever would listen. Though one family who seemed to constantly be in the Hawkins spotlight were the Cunninghams. They were the picture perfect American family. Laura and Philip Cunningham, high-school sweethearts now with their high standing jobs in the mayoral office, and their successful children. Christine Cunningham, a straight A student, head of the cheer team and dating the captain of the basketball team. Castel Cunningham, the eleven year old who was in the advanced math classes, and in the church choir. He was set to start high school a year early, being an exemplary student.
And finally, the prize of the family and the resident trophy child. Chandler Cunningham, the Hawkins Valedictorian of 83, the boy who now attends Harvard Medical all the way on the east coast, and set to graduate this year with honours. He had the perfect life, a girlfriend who he met at Harvard, Madelaine Worton a future nurse, and his parents couldn't stop gushing about how they thought he was going to propose soon.
The bright yellow and black Mustang growled as it rolled through town, the car itself being unique to the doctor in training, if the car wasn't enough of a sign, then his private number plate definitely was. Everything about the man screamed rich and successful, it always has. It was why he was Steve Harrington's role model, and why every guy in town wanted to be him, and every girl wanted to be with him.
"We're getting a lot of attention, have these people got no lives?" The darker skinned girl spoke from the passenger seat, looking over to her blonde companion, rolling her eyes when she spots the rough looking cap on his head. "And I thought I packed all your caps in our bags? Don't you wanna look presentable?"
"Yeah I got it out when we dropped our stuff in my room, and I look fine!" He laughs, turning to her with an accusative look, though his eyes held their playful blue. He shook his head, blonde curls escaping the cap and bouncing as he did. Chandler sighed, remembering how just an hour before his mom had said something similar, saying how someone of his caliper should dress respectably.
"I think you look good Channy." Chrissy smiled from the back seat, meeting her brothers eyes in the mirror, the blonde male smiling back to her. She went back to looking out the window, watching as random shops drifted by.
"So Christine-"
"Chrissy is fine."
"Chrissy, have any embarrassing stories to tell about this idiot?" Maddy smirks, lightly shoving Chandler's shoulder as she looks back to the younger girl for an answer. Chrissy looked over the girl, having never really liked Maddy as Chance's girlfriend, she thought he acted differently when Mads was around. Like the young woman was trying to change him. She hated how Maddy would comment on small things that just made Chance himself, whether it was his collection of baseball caps, his shark tooth necklace that he hadn't taken off since the start of high-school, or his general care free attitude.
"No not really."
"Ahh, so you really are 'Mr Perfect', huh?" The girl smiled, leaning forward and flicking the radio dial, laughing as music boomed from the speakers. Chance rolled his eyes yet again, looking to his unusually quiet sister.
"Here's fine Channy." Chrissy said, and the older boy pulled over. He got out of the yellow vehicle, pulling forward the leather seat so that she could get out. When they were both out, he wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into a hug. She giggled, hugging the tall boy back.
"If Jason gives you any trouble, tell me and I'll knock his teeth in." He muttered into the hug, kissing her temple as she smiled, having missed her overprotective big brother since he's been off at college.
"Give him a chance-" She giggled, laughing at the unintentional pun.
He rolled his eyes, letting go of her. Looking slightly down the road he saw the obnoxious boy his sister was dating walking over to them. Jason smiled, looking to the older boy and holding out his hand to him. "Chancey! It's great to see you again, didn't know you were coming back to town."
Chance frowned, looking down to the boys extended hand and making no move to shake it. "It's Chandler, no one calls me Chancey." Jason awkwardly retracted his hand, turning to Chrissy who was trying to conceal a smirk, shaking her head at her brother's antics.
"Ignore him, we're going to miss our movie." She grabs his hand, leading him away.
"Back by nine! No later!"
"Whatever!"
Chance sighed, getting back into the car, facing with the smirking Madelaine. "Don't even start." He grumbles, glaring to her, annoyed with the prickling dating his little sister.
"Wouldn't dream of it." She laughs, once again blaring the music as the two sped off down the road. The yellow Mustang catching many eyes as it barreled through town.
"So Chance is back in town huh?" Steve Harrington says, standing with Robin Buckley and Dustin Henderson, watching as the car sped away.
"He has an awesome car!" The younger boy yells, watching the car with excitement in his eyes. He smiled ear to ear, realising that the car looked like the beloved transformer in those cartoons he likes.
"Maybe we can catch him after the game tomorrow?" Robin suggests, looking between the two boys. Dustin nodding eagerly as Steve furrowed his eyebrows.
"Why would he hang out with us?" Steve asked, looking to Robin with a confused face. He remembered the man from when he was in high-school, Chance was two years ahead of him, and Harrington practically idolised him, even going as far to start styling his hair in a similar fashion to the blonde.
"Chance and I have been friends for years, we go to church together." Robin shrugged, grimacing at the memories of her parents overly eager with her relationship with the boy, always suggesting that they would be cute together. She rolled her eyes at the thought, going back to walking down the street to the parking lot Steve's car was in.
"I didn't know you two were friends." Steve states, a little jealous. Robin and Dustin shared a look, clearly seeing the jealousy on the boy's face.
"Don't get your panties in a twist Harrington." Dustin teased, walking off towards Steve's car, Robin in tow, smirking to the older boy. Harrington followed along, a pout forming on his face, grumbling that he wasn't getting his panties in a twist.
Skulby- kinda short ik but tell me what you think so far? Chance is my baby I love him so much, tell me what you guys wanna see from this?
