THE MORNING WAS A COLD ONE, a certain gloom was hovering over the small town of Hawkins Indiana. Everyone felt the disturbance in the usual cheerful tone of the town, something was wrong, but no one could put their finger on exactly what.

Gravel crumbled under the heavy tires of the Hawkins PD squad car. The small beige vehicle pulling up to the Cunningham residence with ease in the quiet morning.

Philip Cunningham, who had been retrieving the newspaper, looked up to the recently appointed Chief Powell as he stepped out of the squad car. The solemn look on his face striking more emotion in the stoic father than any soccer game of Chandler's he had ever attended.

It was hard to look. That's what Chandler Cunningham remembers thinking when he gazed down on that metal slab. He tried to look, but it felt as though someone was blowing sand into his eyes whenever he did. His parents, his mother, how she wailed beside him. They were talking to the coroners, trying to find out some details, any details, on how the young life of their only daughter was ended so suddenly.

Tears had been free falling down Chandler's face for the past hour, encouraging him to adjust his hat to be front facing, pulling it down so that no one could see his eyes. Castel had fallen asleep against his brother's chest about ten minutes ago, having tired himself out with all the crying and screaming for his sister. Chandler sat stiff in the uncomfortable bench/chair things, the coroners office was quiet, aside from a few reporters outside who had been watching the police station to tail any stories.

For once, he was unsure as to whether he wanted Madelaine here or not. When the family had been asked to follow the officer so early in the morning, he had assured her to stay home, not wanting her to get too wrapped up in their family drama. Of course, at this time, the family still didn't know exactly what had happened, and Chandler had naturally assumed that the after-game party had been busted for drug use.

He missed the days when the two of them were just friends, when they could talk about anything and just be with eachother. He never really knew why he said yes to dating her, he supposed it was the same reason he decided to got to Harvard Medical, or play varsity soccer.

"Channy?"

The young boy sat on his lap stirred. His soft blondish locks, identical in colour to his sister, ruffling as he move. Chandler watches with a sad smile as the boy rubs his sleep crusted eyes, tear tracks down his cheeks uncomfortably dry. The older boy sighed out as he rubbed the stains from his younger brother's cheeks, watching as those big brown eyes widened in realisation of where they were, and why they were here.

"Cmon, there's a Maccys across the street, we can get breakfast burgers." Chandler positioned his arms under the boy's thighs, picking him up as he stood. He made a beeline for the door, not wanting to be around his parents right now, especially his mom.
