Jack
Jack rode all the way to Akilah's house. Sometimes speeding up or teasing her, so she would squeeze harder. He rode up to her house and stopped. Jack noticed Akilah's eyes were closed so he chose to prise her off him. "It's ok, we're done now, you can let go." He said gently removing her. Akilah let go and got off the motorcycle. She wobbled a bit but (with the help of Jack) steadied herself. Jack held her up by the shoulder and guided her to the house.Once she got up the long driveway Akilah stood on her tip toes so her face was just inches away from Jack and she kissed him on the cheek. Her soft lips leaving a mark that could never be washed off. Then she turned and closed the door. At that very moment Jack decided not to go ahead with the plan. No money could buy this girl.
Akilah
Akilah ran to her room and hid her head in her pillow. Why had she done that. Akilah screamed but luckily the pillow muffled it. Then she heard the tap. Without thinking she opened the window and let Matthew in. "I saw the S.O.S. from my room. Wanna talk about it?" He asked. Not sympathetically. Akilah shook her head. "Ok? Wanna rant while I listen?" Akilah nodded. They used the old willow tree as a bridge between the two rooms. Once they were in Akilah started."WHY? Why! Why? Why, why why WHY!" Matthew sat watching her with blank eyes. Akilah continued, "Why must he be so attractive? Why must he be so smart? Why must he appreciate me?" Akilah pulled out her single plait and ran her hand through her hair. Seeing Matthew still had no clue what she was on about, she plonked herself on his soccer bedspread and told him everything.
"I have a diagnosis!" Matthew said standing up. Akilah raised her eyebrows.
"Well?" She asked.
"You are in love." He said slowly. "And the prescription, tell him." After a rant from Matthew, Akilah finally agreed.
Jack
Jack rode home. He was on cloud nine. There was no way that just happened. Once he was home, he told his brother everything. "Ok, I understand women." Fred said slowly. "Either you were just level ninety-nine friend zoned or she likes you." But Jack wasn't listening. He was still in that moment. "Ah wait, I got it." Fred said snapping him back to reality."Got what?" Jack asked, forgetting he was talking out loud. His brother was a year older and has had one girlfriend since he was twelve. He planned on proposing on her eighteenth birthday. When they were both adults. This would be in a few months.
"You like her!" Fred exclaimed, "you like her, don't you? Oh my god! My baby brother is growing up!" He said wiping a tear away.
"You're fifteen months older than me." Jack corrected even though he knew it made no difference. "Fred, you don't understand. She's ruining my plan!" He shouted as a single tear rolled down his cheek. "She doesn't like me! Are you MAD! Love doesn't come to kids like me! Understand that? She is the definition of perfect and you think she likes me?" Before Fred could respond Jack ran off to his room and slammed the door. Fred sighed and went to get dinner on.
Jack pulled a photo out from under his mattress. It was a family picture of all of them. His three younger sisters, Fred, his two older brothers, winged by both his parents and right in the middle, there was Jack. He protected the picture from his tears. Jack buried his head in his knees and put the picture down. It was the last family picture he had before his parents divorced and his dad took his three sisters. His older brothers left home a few years ago. They never returned. Fred promised when he turned eighteen, that he would take Jack in to come live with him and Daisy (his girlfriend) and that they would feel whole again. No girl like Akilah would want a broken boy. Never.
