He gripped my elbow and turned me to face him as we approached the door.
His features held a stern expression. "Once we are inside, I will introduce you to those that you need to know. Anyone that I do not introduce you to, you are not to speak to at all. After that, you will be given a tour of the areas that you need to be familiar with when it is convenient." He gripped my elbow a little tighter before continuing. "And I will not repeat myself on this one; you are to watch that pretty little mouth of yours; I will not tolerate being embarrassed in front of my pack. Do I make myself clear?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Crystal."
"Good girl," He said in a sarcastic voice while petting the top of my head. I pulled away from him and stared daggers at him.
Cain grinned. "I am going to have so much fun breaking that defiant spirit of yours, my love," Cain said as he opened one of the doors and practically shoved me inside.
The inside of the house was just as beautiful as the outside. A large carriage wheel was hanging from the ceiling, decorated in sparkling lights. A wooden, spiral staircase that led to the second floor took up a significant portion of the entryway. Rustic lights and paintings covered the walls in the hallway. Grey, wooden flooring was spread throughout, making the home feel very countryside. It seems as though they have a thing for wood, HA!
Cain placed his palm on the small of my back, leading me further into the house. Just as he closed the door, a man looking very similar to Cain approached us.
He smiled. "Brother, you've returned......and with a guest." His last words were almost like a question.
Cain sighed. "Don't play games, Calyx; you knew I would be arriving shortly and that she would be with me." He said in an annoyed tone.
Calyx grinned. "Can't help myself, man, I'm bored." He shrugged while looking at me and winking.
I wrinkled my nose, and my brows scrunched together as I took a step back, only to bump into Cain's arm.
A growl erupted from Cain. "Watch it, Calyx, I'm warning you." His tone and stance emanated with authority now.
They stood there for a minute, just staring at each other; the tension in the room was a bit awkward. Finally, I cleared my throat in an attempt to end the stare down.
They tore their eyes away from each other and stared at me. I looked back and forth between the two of them; Cain just glared at me while his brother smirked.
Cain continued to stare at me, then tore his gaze from mine and cleared his throat. "Calyx, this is Freja, my mate and your future Luna. Freja, this is my brother Calyx."
Calyx stepped closer to me, smiling from ear to ear. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Freja." He extended his hand out for me to shake. I took his hand in mine, gripping it firmly in mine and lightly shook his hand. He then bent down and kissed the top of my hand. I immediately yanked my hand back from him, feeling uncomfortable.
Cain stepped in between us. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" He bellowed out.
Calyx smirked and put his hands up in surrender. "Just trying to be polite, brother, that's all."
Cain stood there fuming mad; he took a step towards his brother, but a beautiful woman came out from around a corner before anything else happened.
Her eyes widened with excitement. "Cain, your ho......." She stopped mid-sentence, and her excitement disappeared as she saw me standing there. She glared at me and then turned her attention to Cain.
"Who the fuck is she?" She sneered.
Cain placed his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I tried to tear myself away from him, feeling as if I was being used as a means to make this woman jealous, but his grip just tightened around me, holding me in place.
He peered down at me and smiled. "This is Freja, my mate and your soon-to-be Luna. Freja, this is Eve; she is a female warrior in the pack." Cain said casually.
Her mouth dropped, and she gaped at him. "You have to be fucking kidding me? This is a joke, right?" She shouted frantically. Calyx was standing at the sidelines, with a shit-eating grin on his face, as he watched the events unfold before him.
He softly shook his head. "No, Eve. This is not a joke." Cain said proudly, and I wanted more than anything just to be alone.
"I am supposed to be your Luna, not this......this bitch. She's not even your type, and she's definitely not Luna material Cain. I mean, look at her." She was practically screaming with the last sentence as she pointed at me frantically and scoffed.
I snorted at her remark, finding this whole thing quite amusing now.
Cain snapped his head towards me and gave me a deadly look. I just smiled at him and shrugged my shoulders.
Eve crossed her arms. "What the fuck are you laughing at whore?" She spat.
I raised a brow. "Just your little whiny temper tantrum. I mean, how old are you? And to be honest, jealously doesn't suit you; it makes you look even more pathetic than you already are." I stated, with a broad smile spreading on my face.
She snarled at me and started to take threatening steps towards me.
Cain put up a hand, stopping her in her tracks. "Eve, stop right there." He used his Alpha tone with her.
Eve hesitantly stopped in her tracks; her eyes became glassy. "You are seriously going to side with her? You are going to allow her to speak to me that way?" She whined.
I tilted my head a bit and smiled as wide as I could, with an innocent look plastered on my face. Calyx snickered from the side, causing Cain to glare at him this time.
Cain didn't even look at me, but I could feel the anger and tension rolling off of him in waves.
"Calyx, take Freja to my room. Do not stop anywhere else and do not talk to anyone else, is that clear?" Cain demanded.
Calyx straightened himself. "Yes, sir." He said playfully.
Calyx came to my side and put out his arm in a gesture for us to link arms together. "My lady." I couldn't help but laugh internally at his actions, and the devilish smile spread across his face.
I stood there for a second, contemplating whether or not I wanted to accept his offer. Then, finally, I decided to say screw it and linked my arm with his, allowing him to guide me.
Calyx looked to Cain. "Don't worry, brother; I'll take good care of Freja for you while you are dealing with your...." He paused as he glanced between Cain and Eve. "Problem." He said, smiling.
It was clear that Calyx was trying to get a rise out of Cain, and it was working. Cain stared at him, nostrils flared, his face almost beet red with anger. It was indeed an amusing sight, and I had to turn away, afraid that I would laugh out loud.
Calyx turned his attention to me. "Shall we?"
I slightly nodded. "Lead the way, good sir," I said in a playful tone, matching his demeanour.
Calyx grabbed my bag off the floor, and we began to proceed towards the spiral staircase. As we ascended the stairs, I could feel eyes burning into the back of my head and a shrieking voice fading within the distance; no doubt it was that women's. I couldn't quite make out what she was saying, but I heard something along the lines of "That bitch needs to go." And to be honest, I couldn't agree with her more. I didn't want to be here anymore than she wanted me here. But unfortunately, I don't think it would be as easy as that, Cain seems adamant about keeping me, and I wish I knew the real reason.
