Chapter 2: Saturday School

"Jaaaayyyyy baybeeeee!!!" KD called out from down the hall. I didn't hear her though, I was blasting My Way by Fetty Wap in my ears when she ran up behind me and hit my shoulder causing me to turn around quickly ready to punch whoever it was.
"Damn KD you can't be scaring people like that this early in the morning nigga!" I said as I pulled out one of my earbuds out and giving her dap. We were at Saturday school because of all our tardies and we were doing what we always did- walk the halls until we were told to go to class. This time we only made it to the end of the hallway before a teacher caught us and told us to go in the classroom.
"Miss Smith, Miss Daniels I see you two finally decided to join us. Your seats are in the back. Miss Smith, you'll be behind Miss Roberts and Miss Daniels, next to Miss Smith." Our teacher greeted us the with sign in sheet for the Saturday school class. When I got done signing the sign in sheet, I looked up to see who this 'Miss Roberts' was. I couldn't believe it, it was Joell. I felt like I was being watched so I looked at KD and she was looking at me smiling.
"What nigga?" I whispered trying to play stupid.
"Nigga don't act dumb I just seen you lookin at that girl like that." She shook her head and laughed. We had been in there for a few minutes and I was already ready to go. I put in my earbuds and vibed myself to sleep. I was awakened by a soft tap on the arm. The touch was so gentle I thought I was dreaming. I felt it again and heard my name.
"Jayy? Jayy it's time to go home wake up." Oh my gosh her voice was so beautiful I could listen to it all day and all night. I finally woke up to see Joell turned around in her seat looking at me with those big brown eyes with a cute smile on her face. She giggled when I sat up and looked at her. Seeing that smile made my heart skip a beat and my stomach do a flip.
"Well are ya gonna get up?" She asked giggling. I heard her voice, but not what she said. I was still staring. KD threw a pencil at me so I'd stop.
"Ouch nigga don't do that! I'm tender!" I said rubbing my arm and making a pouting face.
"Stop staring at her like that! She don't want yo ugly face all up in hers." She snapped back laughing. I immediately looked up at Joell and apologized.
"I'm sorry I ainn mean to stare, you're just so beautiful" Shit! Why did I say that?? I looked down wondering what got into me. I don't normally act like that. Her voice broke my thoughts.
"It's okay heehee, and she's not ugly KD don't be mean to her!" She giggled. I could tell my accidental compliment made her happy she was so smiley and giggly. Oh my gosh I think I love this girl... Woah... Never thought I'd hear myself say that....
We all got up and left the school. We were in the parking lot and before Joell went to her car, she came and gave me her number and gave me a hug. Oh she smelled so nice and held me so tight I didn't wanna let go.
"Uhm... Jayy? I don't wanna come off as weird, but you're really cool and cute and you and your friend are funny and I'd like to get to know you better... I wanted to talk to you before but I'm just so shy... I'm sorry that was weird..." She couldn't even look me in my eyes. All I could do was smile.
"Don't apologize, it's okay, I promise. It's not weird at all. Honestly, I've felt the same about you but I didn't say anything... Look I'll call you tonight and we'll talk more, okay?" I said smiling trying not to seem overly happy. She hugged me one last time and walked to her car. KD was in the car watching the whole thing.
"Mhm I see ya niiggaaaaaaa." She said laughing.
"Hush nigga before I push you out this car!" I said laughing with her. I thought about Joell the whole way home.
