Complete darkness... something that scared us all as kids, yet sometimes I wonder.. were we ever scared of the dark itself, or the unknown 'monsters' that were supposedly hiding inside of it? I didn't want to stick around to find out. Running, running as fast as I could. Trying not to trip over my own feet. Though I tried my hardest, it was inevitable. I tripped and fell on my face, scratching up my cheek. Then.....
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I jolted awake, sitting up quickly I scanned the room, trying to see if there was anything unusual. Nothing. Lifting my hand slowly, I placed it on my cheek where I had scratched it in my dream. Again, nothing. I breathed out a long sigh of relief, knowing my dream wasn't real and I could sleep peacefully. I laid back down and closed my eyes, only for them to snap back open a few seconds later. "Damnit!" I said "I'm going to be late!" I sprung out of bed and ran to my small wardrobe which held my few pairs of clothes. Frantically searching each hanger and every pile to find something presentable. "Its my first day, I can't be late!" I thought to myself
I finally found something, a pair of fades jeans with small patches that were sewn, a grey shirt with a small blackbird print on the area right next to where your heart would sit, and a plaid sweater in a brick red color.
I ran to my bedroom door and closed it, making sure it was locked then began undressing. I carefully slid off my pajama pants then put on my patched up jeans, i then pulled my shirt over my head and threw it on the floor, putting on the grey shirt and plaid sweater. I left my sweater unbuttoned as it wasn't cold enough for that in my opinion. I then opened my door and ran down the stairs, walking over to the bathroom and checking myself in the mirror as I normally do before I go out. My hair looked like a hot mess and my eyes were still those tired ones from when I first woke up.I brushed my fingers through my hair slowly, trying not to hurt myself by tugging too hard. Everyone knows how bad that hurts.
I finished brushing through my hair then stared at the mirror for a few seconds longer before flashing a small smile and walking to the kitchen.
"'Morning, mother." I said as I approached the taller, more elderly lady standing just ahead of my current position. She had blonde hair pulled back into a tight ponytail and was wearing a muted rose gold colored skirt with a matching sweater-like over shirt and a white shirt underneath. "Good morning, sweetheart." Henry's mother said with a small smile "you should eat something before you leave. We wouldn't want you to go hungry, now would we?" I nodded in agreement as my stomach began to make noises, also agreeing with the statement. "I just ran to the store yesterday so we have bread, make yourself some toast"
"Okay"
"I'm heading off to work" Henry's mother explained "I'll be back later tonight. I should be home by dinner though so you don't have to worry about that."
"Okay" I said one last time. "I'll make sure to-" I stopped mid sentence when I realized I didn't have the time to finish it, nor eat breakfast. The time on the stove clock.
School is starting in five minutes.
