Will Nature Defeat All

Chapter 8 Tommy's P.O.V

It had been 4 days. Graduation is coming closer. Then Mr. Birktree will make us defeat the world. Nature will defeat all unless I stop it. I will stop it.
I had lunch with Mr. Birktree yesterday. He seems to trust me now. I have played as the faithful sidekick. All the students know the truth about Mr. Birktree. They hate him. Mr. Fernbush and Madame Rosepetal helped with that. But Daisy and Proctor are still on Birktree's side.
We are almost ready to defeat him. Today I will try to get Proctor on my side. Daisy is a lost cause. Mr. Fernbush has tried to convince her but it won't work. Thank goodness we didn't tell her details.
We will also have a meeting in Cabin 3 during break between six and seven class. The break in between those classes are longer. We will talk about defeating Birktree before he can use us to defeat the world.

"Hi Proctor" I said during second class.
Before he could reply I said " If I could find you a better teaching job, would you take it."
"Of course I would. I mean why not."
"So if I could make a deal with you in exchange for a better teaching job would you take it."
"Yes my boy tell me" he replied eagerly.
"Okay so here's the deal. I want you to make sure Mr. Birktree and Daisy are in Mr. Birktree's office at 6:30 the day after tomorrow. Also make sure they can't get out but I can get in. Is it a deal?"
"That's all I have to do. Well then yes I accept your offer."
"Good" I replied.

As I was walking to Cabin 3 for the meeting, I heard groans coming from the cages. I whispered to Jake and Sky "It's okay I'll get you out soon."
Then I continued walking to Cabin 3. "Hello everyone. Today we need to figure out who is doing what on the day." I addressed the crowd in front of me.
"Proctor is on our side now and he will secure Mr. Birktree and Daisy at 6:30 on Graduation." People cheered at this.
"My fellow students, you will gather at school house at 6:20. You will go to the Big Cabin at 6:32 You will surround the Big Cabin with Mr. Fernbush leading you." More people cheered.
"Madame Rosepetal you will be stationed in the woods near the Big Cabin in case anything goes wrong."
"At 6:35 I will go into the Big Cabin. I will go into Mr. Birktree's office and defeat him." Everyone in the room cheered and hollered.

Tommy's P.O.V
It was the day of graduation. It was time for me to do what I was born to do. Was I crazy or really brave, probably the first one. Classes went by in a haze. I remember every once and a while someone patting my back saying good luck or something of the sort.
Before I knew it dinner was over. It was 6:00. It's almost time. Then I heard steps thundering towards school house. It must be 6:20. It was so close. I looked at my watch: 6:21. More time passed. It was 6:32. They must be going to the Big Cabin now. I hope Mr. Birktree and Daisy are secure.

Proctor's P.O.V.
It's 6:25 I better get going. I can't wait to get that new teaching job. I went to the Big Cabin. I walked in pretending to look worried. "Mr. Birktree you need to stay where you are there is a hidden bomb below your feet. It will explode once you move off of it."
Daisy came into the office like I knew she would. She was a sweet but nosy woman. "What's wrong" Daisy said.
"Mr. Birktree is standing on a bomb" I exclaimed.
Mr. Birktree stood still in shock. "I will be right back to get some heavy things so you can step off of the bomb without being blown to bits. Daisy you stay in the room and make sure Mr. Birktree doesn't move."
I ran out in a "hurry" just as Tommy was about to walk in. "Go in Tommy I'll lock the door" I whispered.
Tommy went in and I used my plant powers to block the door. I covered it with vines so no one could get out. I said Tommy's name to the door so that only he would be able to come in and out.

Tommy's P.O.V
I walked in to see a distressed Daisy and a stationary Mr. Birktree. "Tommy. Did you bring any heavy objects? I'm standing on a bomb" Mr. Birktree said urgently.
I knew what I had to do but was I ready to do it. I had to be ready I had the whole school on my side. "Daisy don't move stay here."
Before Daisy or Mr. Birktree could say anything, I linked arms with Mr. Birktree and went to my past.

I was in my past. The vortex had broke. There was my mother. She looked at me lovingly. There was my father right behind her. I was in my mom's arms. She was singing to me. I saw my eyes close. Then my mom put me to bed. BAM! I heard my mom screaming to my dad. Then hooded figures came into my room and grabbed the baby version of me. I heard footsteps thundering up the steps. My mom and dad were in the room a second after past me left out the window with the hooded figures. "Where is he" my mom screamed.
I wanted to comfort them. I wanted to tell them I was alive. Just look out the window, I wanted to yell but I knew they couldn't see me.
I noticed Mr. Birktree was becoming dead weight. He wasn't even walking any more. I checked his pulse. He was alive. I knew that going into the past and future drained your energy. I was used to it but Mr. Birktree wasn't. My plan was working.
I went into Mr. Birktree's past. He was a child once. Yeah I know hard to believe. He was sitting alone at the playground. Then some guys came up and told him he was dumb and stupid. That's why he turned out so horrible. I went back to my past.
My mom and dad were telling me a story that was called "The Little Train that Could." It was the best story I had ever heard because it was told by my parents. This was the best thing ever.
No stop it Tommy get back on track. I checked Mr. Birktree's pulse. He had no pulse. A man was dead on my hands. Don't think like that. He did bad things, he took many children away from their families. Anyway there was no turning back now it was over. Then I went back to my present. I dropped Mr. Birktree. I told Daisy what was happening and that the whole school was against her. "So it's join or die."
She agreed willingly. I walked to the entrance of the Big Cabin to see the whole school looking at me. "It is done we are free to go home" I shouted at the top of my lungs. Everyone cheered.
"Daisy, where is the key to the cages?"
"In my desk draw" she replied.
I went to get the keys. Then I rushed to the cages and opened them. I waited for Jake and Sky to get out. After that I embraced them so hard they almost choked.
We all ran to the boat that was being prepared for the past seven days. The whole school had a feast on the boat while Proctor drove it. We laughed, cried, screamed, and cheered, for we were going to see our families.
