The next morning the group stands around near the gate that leads to the concrete part of the prison. The area is filled with walkers.

Maggie, Archer, Y/N, Glenn, T-Dog, Rick, and Daryl all stand with their weapons ready. Hershel is holding onto the gate. "Ready?" He asks.

They nod and he pulls open the gate allowing the seven to run inside. Hershel shuts it and the remaining group members try to draw the walkers to the fence.

The group inside, is in a formation. Everyone has their back to each other and move in a consistent shape, killing the walkers along the way.

Y/N breaks from the group at one point to slice a rotter down with her sword. Glenn grabs her arm and pulls her back when she's finished. The group slowly push forward past the first courtyard until they see another one, the gate wide open. Rick holds up his hand and they all hide behind a wall to think up a plan.

Suddenly four walkers wearing protective armor and helmets come out from behind a car. Maggie kicks one to the floor. Daryl tries shooting one in the head but the arrow bounces off the plastic.

Y/N feels a hand on her shoulder and whips around to find another armed walker. She pushes it backward and uses that time to slide her sword up under its neck, killing it. She laughs and glances over at T-Dog and Glenn. "See that?"

They do the same, lifting the walkers heads just enough so they can get the brain. Rick and Daryl rush over and close the other gate, leaving a large group of walkers trapped inside.

Once all the walkers are dead, everyone takes a deep breath.

Glenn glances around. "Seems secure."

Daryl looks at one of the bodies and points his crossbow at it while shaking his head. "That's a civilian."

T-Dog rubs his bald head. "So the interior could be filled with walkers from outside the prison."

"What if walls are down?" Archer asks.

Y/N sighs, wiping the blood off her face. "We can't rebuild this whole place."

Rick takes a breath. "We can't risk a blind spot. We have to push in."

They all gather their weapons and make their way towards a door leading inside the prison. Daryl enters first followed by Rick, Glenn and Y/N. Maggie, Archer and T-Dog follow.

Inside the cell block, the floor is littered with trash. Thankfully there aren't any walkers inside the room. Rick walks up a small staircase to get to a little glass room where a dead body sits. Probably the guard. He takes a set of keys from the guys belt and goes back down to the others. He uses the keys to open the door leading to the cells.

They search both floors of the cell block, finding one dead body and two walkers. Once the coast is clear, Carol, Beth, Carl, Lori and Hershel come inside and look around.

Rick smiles slightly. "What do you think?" He asks everyone.

Y/N glances around. "Home sweet home."

"For the time being." Rick says.

Lori holds a pillow in her hand. "It's secure?"

Rick nods. "This cell block is."

"What about the rest of the cells?" Hershel asks.

"In the morning, we'll find the cafeteria, and the infirmary." Rick says.

"We sleep in the cells?" Beth says with a slight shiver.

Y/N nods at her and she sighs. Everyone splits up to look for a cell to claim. Daryl shakes his head. "I ain't sleeping in no cage. I'll take the perch." Y/N playfully rolls her eyes and follows after Glenn who has chosen a cell.

There's a bloody stain on the wall and the scent is pretty musty. Glenn glances at her apologetically and she drops her bag. "I'm so exhausted I don't even care." She says as she flops down on the bottom cot of the bunk bed.

He smiles and sits down next to her. She sits up and leans against his body. "Let me see you." He whispers. He looks over her arms and her back.

She cocks her head. "What are you doing?"

He keeps searching. "Checking for scratches." She smiles and lets him look. Afterward, they sit quietly for a little bit, just enjoying each others company. The two haven't really had a minute alone since their confession all those months ago after the farm.

He eventually looks her in the eye. She smiles at him. "What?" She says with a small laugh.

"You're so beautiful." He whispers.

Her heart flutters. She gently leans in and kisses him. He returns the act and she can feel him smile against her mouth. After a moment he pulls away. "I love you."

She leans against his shoulder again. "I love you more."

Later, a few of the guys and Y/N stand around a table in the room next to the cells. The guys have collected some of the items outside from the dead walkers.

Rick starts listing off some of the things. "Flashbangs, CS Triple-Chasers. Not sure how they'd work on walkers, but we'll take them."

Daryl picks up one of the helmets from the armored walkers. He looks inside. There's slimy walker skin coated inside. He sets it down. "I ain't wearing that shit."

T-Dog picks it up and looks it over. "We could boil it."

Daryl shakes his head. "Ain't enough firewood in the whole forest, no. Besides we've made it this far without them right?"

Y/N nods at that. For months the group struggled day to day. They were always on the move. Never had a place to call home. They survived because of each other, not plastic helmets and a fancy vest.

Carol walks out to the room and rubs her arm. "Hershel? Can you come here a minute?"

Rick furrows his brows. "Everything alright?" She nods. "Yeah."

Hershel follows after her and the others glance at each other questionably.

"Okay then..." Y/N says.

The guys smile at that and Rick speaks. "Gather up your stuff. Get Archer, Maggie and Glenn. Once Hershel's done get him too. We are gonna keep pushing in."
