why is it so dark? Oh

...why is it so dark? Oh...never mind. A bright light filled my vision. My clothes weren't my own. I was wearing a white dress shirt with black dress pants, loafers, and a blue tie. Weird...below my feet was green grass, and all around me were tall hedges. These must be apart of a maze.

I heard voices nearby, and I followed them through the large hedge maze I was trapped inside as best I could.

"—painting the roses red, we're painting the roses red!" The voices sang. I jumped up to look above the hedge maze, continuing to do so until I realized there was a corner I could enter through.

I fear my eyes deceive me. They were man-sized cards, all spinning in circles while viciously (and poorly) painting white roses with red paint. "—painting the roses red, and many a tear we shed! Because we know they cease to grow, and soon they'll all be dead!" Oh my, that turned morbid. Alas, Alice in Wonderland was always a peculiar film compared to other movies.

"—An yet we go ahead, painting the roses red!" They sloppily carried their supplies to a new bush, this one shaped like a heart. They spilled red paint on the grass in the process. I cautiously walked over to the group as they continued singing their song.

"Pardon me, card of three, but why must you paint them red?" I mused, a curious glint in my eyes as the card turned to look at me from the stool. "Hm? Oooooh! Well, the fact is Mr., we planted the white roses by mistake—aaand, the Queen he likes them red, if he saw white instead, he'll raise a fuss and each of us will quickly lose his head!" The card of three made a cutting motion with the paintbrush against his throat.

"Oh my!" I exclaimed, taking a step back. "This is the part we dreeeaaad, we're painting the roses red!" They moved to the next hedge, leaving behind the bucket of paint and a spare paintbrush. I took it into my hands. "At least let me help you." I let out a small smile.

"We're painting the roses red, we're painting the roses red! Don't tell the Queen what you have seen or say that's what we said! But we're painting the roses red, yes painting the roses red!" I sang along, a small chuckle escaping. "Not pink, not green, not aquamarine! We're painting the roses red!"

We finished up the hedge just in time for a horn to sound. The cards panicked at the sight. "The Queen!" The card of three threw the bucket in panic, causing it to land on another card. "The Queen..." I murmured, a little scared.

I climbed down from the step-ladder and dodged the buckets and splatters of paint that were getting tossed around. The cards threw themselves onto the ground, seeing a spot open I did as well. I took a glance up, what appeared to be hundreds of cards were swarming around us, coming at us with horizontal formations them jumping over us like it was a game of leap-frog.

I quickly put my head down again. "Carrrds! Hallt!" I looked up to find the cards in a heart formation. Uh oh. "Count off!" The voice ordered. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, jack!" The cards separated themselves, splitting between two rows.
