The next day

I awoke at the sound of knocking on the door, and I heard Hange's familiar voice, asking if she could come in. I called back saying yes.

Hange opened the door and bounded in. Happiness seemed to radiate from her. She pulled a chair over to my bed and sat down.

"Day one, rise and shine scout!" She said happily, adjusting her glasses. "We'll be experimenting on one of the captured titans, you know, testing its responses and stuff. I'll need you to copy all the information we get down today into table too when we get back. Paperwork isn't that fun, but that's what you signed up for when you agreed to be my assistant!"

"Yes, Section Commander! I'll get ready and we can grab breakfast and go!" I said, sliding out of bed.

"Please, call me Hange. We can be on first name terms; I can tell we'll get along great!" She said, eyes sparkling.

I blushed and quickly turned away as she left the room so I could get changed. Why was I so flustered in Hange's presence? I pushed the thought to the back of my head and told myself to focus on work. I folded my pyjamas and straightened my uniform.

Hange and I spent the morning experimenting and jotting down notes. When we came back, we studied some of the samples in the lab. I sat at my lab desk, listening to Hange ramble on about Titan reactions to certain things as I scribbled down some notes on what she was saying. I barely noticed her stop speaking, until she appeared behind me. She leant down and looked over my shoulder, reading what I'd written.

"How do you write so neatly when you're writing so fast? My notes are barely legible!" She said. I felt her hair brushing against my neck and I gasped a little, feeling my face go red.

"Oh, uh, thanks!" I stammered.

"Sorry did I startle you? You must've been very engrossed in your work; I admire your dedication. I really did make the right call making you my assistant!" She chuckled and moved back again, and I was relieved that she wasn't so close.

"Y-Yeah, it's really interesting. Thanks though!" I said. I could listen to Hange ramble all day.

One week later

I sat down on the grass with Mikasa after training. I sighed. I was tired and confused about my identity. Why did I have a crush on Hange? Over everyone in the Survey Corps, like Captain Levi, or Mikasa, I chose Hange. Yeah, it was confirmed. I definitely liked her. I turned to face Mikasa. She knew I was her assistant now.

"Do you have a crush on anyone? It feels inappropriate for me to have a crush on who I do." I said nervously. She looked taken back by the sudden question. "Sorry, that was a bit out of the blue." Her expression softened.

"For me, Eren, I mean I've cared and protected him since we were kids, so it's understandable, I guess." She sighed, "but he seems too focussed on his soldier duties and his 'kill every titan' obsession to even give, love, a second thought. Don't tell anyone!" I laughed.

"Of course not, I won't,"

Mikasa cocked her head slightly. "Who is it you have a crush on?"

"Oh, um well it's complicated. It's, uh... A girl... I just hope you don't think I'm, well, weird? Which is weird to me too because I've never really liked anyone, and she's way out of my league, and ughhh... I don't know!" I said, letting out and exasperated sigh.

"Y/N, I don't think you're weird. Love is love; it doesn't matter who it's with. And I mean I won't keep asking if you don't want to tell me, but, who is she?" Mikasa asked, slowly.

"Oh um... I've been seeing her around a lot before, and I've always admired her and wanted to be like her, but it's... Hange..." I said, hands fidgeting nervously. My face felt warm. Mikasa looked indifferent.

"I mean, sure she's your superior, but now you're her friend and personal assistant. It's not like the age gap is big either. I don't think it's that unreasonable really, anyone would admire her skills too. I fully support you, as my best friend!" She said, smiling.

"Thanks, Mikasa, I guess you're right. I've got work to do for a certain Section Commander, see you later!" I said getting up.

"Bye!"

I walked back up to the dorms after visiting the mess hall for dinner. I took two meals, one for Hange, knowing that she wouldn't have had anything. She always would get too caught up in her work and forget about her health, so I had to look out for her. I knocked on her door and came in to see her over her desk surrounded by paperwork, writing.

"I brought you dinner, Hange!" I said, placing the food on the table closest to her. "Make sure you eat it, you need it!"

"Thank you, Y/N. I've been looking through some of the notes we took down this week, and some of this is so fascinating!" She continued to talk on about some of the results and I stood smiling. Her messy brown hair was tied messier than before, and her glasses glinted in the soft glow of the candle next to her. I wondered what her lips would feel like. Hey stop that Y/N! What are you thinking? She's your boss! I chided myself silently. My heart pounded a little more than usual. I said goodbye to Hange and strolled off to my room. I sat over my desk, looking at all the piled paperwork I had to do for her. I kept at it for an hour until I heard a knock at the door. Hange came in and sat on the edge of my bed.

"You've been working for ages, Y/N. You need to sleep, it's getting late!" I turned and faced her, smiling.

"I'm not that tired, don't worry! Did you eat the dinner I brought you?" I asked.

"Yes, you know me well to get me my preferred food now!" She laughed. I smiled.

"You should really sleep now Hange, it's about one am!" I said.

"Hey, you can't say anything, you're working into the dead of night!" She giggled.

"I promised to hand this paperwork in today, and so I'm just trying to finish it." I retorted.

"Don't worry about it Y/N, just hand it in when you can!"

"It's fine, I'm not tired anyway." I lied.

"Y/N, when was the last time you slept? You look exhausted, you should tell me if I'm giving you too much work!"

"You're not, it's just I have training and all Captain Levi's cleaning things, so I'm trying to fit everything in. Really, it's okay!"

"When was the last time you slept?" She persisted.

I sighed. "Okay fine, I haven't slept for the last three days, but I'm functioning! Please, Hange, I promise I'll get this to you."

"Three days! Y/N, I need you to stay healthy and rested! I don't want you to be overworked!" Hange said, panicked. She stood up and moved toward me. She grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. I blushed at her touch.

"But-"

"No buts, just do as I say!" She said.

She tugged me to my bed and pushed me onto it, tucking the covers around my shoulders. I was being tucked in by my boss? I imagined another situation where this might've happened. I shook the thought away. Hange is just a friend, okay Y/N? She'd probably be disgusted if she knew of your feelings. This is all just because she cares. Butterflies erupted in my stomach.

"You can finish the paperwork in the morning. You need to sleep and that's an order!" She said half joking, half serious and pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "Sweet dreams, Y/N."

"You too." I said as she blew out the candle and left the room. I lay stunned, taking in how Hange tucked me in and how she cared so much for my health. My feelings for her swelled and I fell asleep happy. It was a refreshing sleep too.

Hey Guys! I decided to upload another chapter because I cannot be bothered to do any homework today lmaooo.
