I woke up in the infirmary, the sounds of nurses talking quietly in the background waking me. Moonlight poured through the open window, and someone was hunched over in a chair with their head buried in their arms on the side of my bead. I focused my eyes on them to realise that it was Hange, still in the same clothes from the expedition. I tried to sit up, but my nurse must've heard me shuffling in bed and she walked over.

"How are you feeling?" She whispered, passing me a glass of water. I slurped it down and felt much better.

"Much better, thanks. What's the time?" I said.

"It's nearly 5am, so not long now till sunrise. You should be able to walk around a little tomorrow, but you'll need to take the crutch. It's here-" she said, pointing to the wooden stick leaned up against the wall. "You broke you're arm in two places, so it will take about 6 weeks to heal. As for your ankle, probably only a few days on crutches and then you'll have to take it easy on it for about a week. I replaced the bandages and put a sling on your right arm, so by morning you'll be good to go. You won't have to spend another night here either."

"Thanks a lot!" I said. "6 weeks... What about Hange's work..." I muttered.

"Speaking of, Section Commander Hange insisted on staying here overnight because she 'wouldn't be able to sleep easy knowing that you were unwell'. She really does care about you, Ms L/N. That much was clear when she threatened to use me as titan bait if I didn't let her stay!" She chuckled quietly. I blushed and just smiled at her. "What actually happened to your arm?"

"I was a little reckless and acted without thinking. I saw my friend in danger so shoved her out of the way, but in the process the abnormal titan we were trying to capture grabbed me and crushed it. When I fell, I landed on my foot weirdly, which explains the sprain." I said, looking at my hands, embarrassed.

"You were being heroic. You saved her life, and you still lived, didn't you?" She said.

"I guess so!"

Hange shifted and opened her eyes.

"You're awake! I was worried about you!" She said, sitting up and patting down her uniform. I smiled at her.

"You really didn't have to stay, your back is going to be so stiff in the morning from sleeping like that!" I said. The nurse left, smiling at me, knowing that we needed some privacy.

"Looks like I'm gonna have to be your personal assistant for a little while!" She said, smiling. Her hair was dishevelled and her goggles were wonky.

"Honestly, I'm so sorry. I wish I could help you more with work in the next weeks but I can't. I'll make it up to you at some point." I said, fidgeting with my fingers. She scooted closer and brushed some strands of my hair out of my face and kissed my forehead. I got very flustered and felt butterflies in my stomach. It's platonic. Nothing more.

"It's alright, seriously. We've had this conversation before and I told you that as long as you recover, I'm happy. If you hadn't done what you did, Mikasa would be severely injured or worse, dead." She said, a smile playing on her lips.

"I guess so. I'll drop it now." I said, struggling to get the words out after what just happened.

So now I know what her lips feel like. I thought. I distracted myself from that thought. "So how's the Titan that we caught?" I asked. Hange's eyes lit up.

"We have it isolated from the others right now, because I wanted you to see how they first interact. In the morning, we'll move it with the others. I can't wait to start experimenting on him, we could learn so much more! I was hoping that you had a name suggestion for him, I have no clue." She said excitedly.
