Open Hearted

Chapter 3

I laid out on my dock tanning. I felt the sun on my skin and a light breeze in my hair. I sat up and looked out at the water of the canal that I lived on. I looked as my dad's boat and sighed. As soon as I got back from Orlando I was going to start pestering him again to buy a new boat. It had been close to four years since ours had been working properly and I longed to ride on the waves. 

"Andora!!" Jace came running towards me. 

"How did you get back here?! The door was locked!" 

"I came through the side gate." He said out of breath. I had to remember to put a lock on that gate.

It's been a little more than a month since I first met Jace and we've become good friends. I knew he wanted to be more than friends but I wasn't ready for a relationship right now. 

Wait. I'm sorry. Let me explain what I meant when I said Jace wanted to be more than friends. A couple of weeks ago Jace had asked me out on a date. I kindly declined. A few days later we asked again. I mean he's cute. Who am I trying to kid? He's hot! And I loved being around him. But I liked being single. It was easier than dealing with the drama in relationships. Anyway. Let me get back to the story. 

"Why are you all sweaty and dirty?" I said noticing the sweat on his brow. Even with the dirt smudges on his cheek he looked irresistible. 

"You won't believe what happened! Ok so I was at the park working out when I saw a friend from my old school. So the. I went over and started talking to him and I asked what he was doing in Pompano." 

"But why are you all covered in dirt?" I interrupted. 

"Shh. Let me finish. Where was I? Oh that's right. Anyway. He told me he was here to see theJack Johnson concert but he had to leave early and now he's stuck with two tickets." He said excitedly. 

"Buy why-"

"I'm getting to it! So then I told him how I loved Jack Johnson and he asked if I wanted the tickets. But then the guy he was with got mad and said 'I thought I was getting the tickets!' so then I suggested we raced for then and we did and I won!" He smiled proudly at his achievement. 

"But Jace that still doesn't explain why you looked like a pig that just got out of a mud pit." 

"Well… On my way back to my car I was doing my happy danced and fell on a patch of dirt…" He said sheepishly. 

As soon as he said that I bursted out laughing. "Are you laughing at my stupidity?" he said with a smile. 

"I would never!" I tried to keep a straight face but ended laughing again. 

"What are you doing?" I said worriedly as he started coming toward me with a mischievous smile. He picked me up fireman style and started walking toward the pool. 

"Jace Daniel Smith! Put me down!" I slapped his butt which just made him laugh. I felt his warm hands on my upper legs were he was holding me. Could he feel my heart beating faster and faster? He jumped in the pool still holding me and let go when we were under water. When we surfaced I saw his big blue eyes staring into my brown ones. He grabbed my waist and pulled me close but I didn't push him away. I put my arms around his neck. Our faces were so close they were almost touching. I felt his breath on my face and I saw his wet hair sticking to his forehead. I closed my eyes and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

~Girl put your records on. Play me your favorite song. Go ahead, put your hair down. Sapphire faded jeans. I put you get you get your dreams. Go ahead, put your hair down.~ 

The ringtone I had set for my mom blared from my cellphone. I got out of the pool and quickly dried of before I answered. After I was done Jace said he had to go. 

"Dont forget about the 20th." He said as I walked him to the door. 

"What's on the 20th?" I asked confused. 

"The concert you dork."

"You're taking me to the concert with you?"

"Of course. Who else would I take? You might not be my girlfriend but I still want to show you off every chance I get." I stood there shocked. 

"Jace... That's the sweetest thing I guy's ever said to me." 

"If that was the sweetest thing a guy has said to you, then you've obviously been hanging around all the wrong guys."
