Ava's POV
I felt the ground under my feet. My vision was blurry, the whole word was spinning, and my wobbly legs were unable to support my weight. My heart was beating erratically inside my chest, and it felt like someone was squeezing the life right out me. I wanted to desperately get air into my lungs, but my stupid brain wouldn't allow it.
Then nothing....total darkness consumed me whole.
That's all I remembered before waking up not too long ago, chocking and scratching at the wires and tubes that were connected to my body. Panic began to rise in my chest as tears fell from my eyes, falling down the sides of my face before my eyes were greeted by a older man leaning over me. His soft hands held onto wrists gently while he spoke with carefulness about my situation.
His thick brown hair was sprinkled with grey, his warm dark eyes showed nothing but absolute trust that it had somewhat calmed me down. My body knew to trust him, that he was here to help me and not to cause me any harm. My mind was still foggy from the events that all I wanted to do was fall back to sleep, but how was that possible? I had just woken up!
My mind had registered at some point that I was not in a normal military hospital. The white curtains where missing, the bed was way too soft and the smell of vanilla and peppermint was all around me, tickling at my scenes. No hospital, military or otherwise smelt this wonderful. After what felt like an eternity, the older man had removed my breathing tube. He then begun to move an arm underneath my back, holding under my armpit to pull me up further, pushing and maneuvering pillows to help me sit better.
He then reached over and helped me to have a sip of water from a cup near by. My throat felt like sandpaper and was sore to even whisper. Once the liquid hit my lips I was in heaven, wondering just how long it had been since my body had a nice cold drink of water. I exhale while looking down at my hands, intertwining them together before the good Doctor entered the room again. Of course he was a doctor, he had an Ora of a gentle person.
"Sorry about that Ms. Johnson"
He smiled before walking and taking a seat next to the bed. I continue to watch the man as my face gave off a look of confusion. How does he know my name? But he must have seen the look on my face because he nodded his head and gave me a small smile.
"Your identity tag"
Oh, right. That makes sense. I raise my hand, feeling around my neck. I know it's not there but my fingers still feel for it on their own.
"All of your belongings are safe and with my King, they will be returned to you once you are well enough to travel. How are you feeling now? Better?"
I nod slowly while my eyes travel across the room. My mind at a complete loss as to where I was, and who this King person might be. Whoever he was had money, a lot of it judging by the décor around me. High ceilings with exquisite artwork carved into the crown molding. The walls were painted a crisp white while black and gold light fixtures hung from the walls, giving off a modem Victorian feel. Antique furniture was pressed against the walls while I ran my finger's over the soft grey saturn sheets that laid over my legs.
"Where am I?"
I whisper, my eye's moving to the man that hadn't taken his eyes off me while I took in my surroundings carefully.
"That is an answer, I'm afraid I can not give you. But please don't be alarmed, you are quite safe here, and my King will be joining us in the morning to answer all of your questions."
He spoke with so much tenderness that I couldn't tell my mind nor body to be afraid. I know I should be, considering I don't have a clue of where I am, or how long I have been here. But considering the last memory I have was of being in the most excruciating pain I have ever felt, only to wake up feeling tiered and stiff, I must have been here for a while, months if I had to guess.
If I was truly in any danger, I wouldn't be laying in a bed that was bigger than most, or in this expensive room while they made sure I had survived from my injuries.
What where my injuries?
I will probably have to wait till his King pays me a visit.
"Ok"
I nod, feeling my eyelids betray me at that very moment.
"You must rest now. I will come by tomorrow morning and we will talk more then. I will also be checking in on you throughout the night to see how your recovering."
But before he could stand up out of his chair, my hand moved to stop him by his forearm, gripping him tightly to stop him from leaving.
"Sorry but....how long have I been here? Or is that a question that will have to wait till tomorrow too?"
I whisper as his face softens while looking down at me. I remove my hand and intertwine them with the other.
"That is a question I can most definitely answer for you"
I suck in a breath before he answers, trying to to stop my heart from racing at an unbearable speed.
"You have been here for almost six months"
My eyes widen with surprise and horror. Panic and fear make me gasp at the thoughts of worry my parents must be living through. And Anthony! Oh God! Did he make it? Was he alive? Are they looking for me? Did they think me dead? My blood pounded in my ears, my heart thudded in my chest, feet tingled and my vision disfigured, as if I was looking through fish-eye lens.
I tried taking in long slow deep breaths, in and out, in and out, I could here the voice whisper close to my ear. The voice that I had heard while I was sleeping, before waking up with a panic.
Strong and deep. But it wasn't the Doctors voice.
This belonged to another.
My fingers clutched at the saturn sheets, my hands wrapped so tightly around it that my nails began to dig into my palms. Breathing became hard, too hard that it felt like I was running a marathon. I cried harder, chest growing tight as bile began to rise up my throat. That's when I felt it, a sting on my right arm. My body felt lighter, my fingers loosened around the sheets as my vision began to fade into nothing but darkness again.
But that deep voice was the last thing I remember before slipping.
