Friday, 11th Feb

Friday couldn't have gotten here any slower. I haven't really talked to Wanda since Tuesday, although I have caught her staring at me quite a lot in homeroom. I feel like she wants to tell me something.

On Thursday's training session, Wanda hung with me and Annette. Although Annette and Wanda were chummy, Wanda and I were awkwardly limited to small talk.

I shouldn't've just walked away like that on Tuesday. I just stuffed up everything.

I saw Wanda and I becoming good friends.

What's worse is that I've seen her hanging around Jenna Ryans' group at recess and lunch.

I'm such an idiot.

I should have invited her into my group when I had the chance.

I watch the clock on the front wall tick by like I have been for the past half an hour.

Detention could not be going by any slower. There is still another half hour left.

I let out a sigh and turn to my left, seeing Wanda leaning on her left hand and writing something down in a small notebook. She looks up and gives me a weak smile that I reciprocate before turning to my right to look out the window, glancing at the clock on the way.

I should have brought a notebook like Wanda.

The view outside is of the courtyard in front of the old boarding house where our year 11 lockers and homerooms are. I can see the spot where my friends and I sit under the stairs from here.

It's a miserable day, really. Dark clouds have formed a coat in the sky stretching as far as I can see. It looks as though it's going to rain.

As if on cue, it starts bucketing down. I chuckle as I see the gardener run into the undercroft, clearly done for the day now.

It's still pouring when detention finishes. Shit an umbrella. I look in the front of my school bag to find none.

Rip.

The station is around a ten minute walk.

I walk out of the detention room with Wanda following closely behind me. We don't speak.

I look out at the rain from the permanent canopy outside. I see the rest of the few kids from detention all walk out the gate with their brollies in hand.

I feel a presence next to me and Wanda's floral perfume intoxicates me. It's my new favourite smell.

I give her a quick side glance, nodding my head goodbye. The sides of her lips turn up, giving me a little smile.

Okay let's do this.

I pull my blazer over my head, hunching my back and step into the fast, heavy drops as I begin my speed walking journey to the station.

I only manage to get out the school gate when I hear wet footsteps running up behind me.

"Y/n! Y/n, wait!" Wanda calls. I turn around to see her standing a metre away from me, a big scarlet umbrella over her head. "Get under!" She yells to me over the sound of the rain.

I just stare at her in the rain for a couple of seconds. I don't want an awkward walk to the station but I don't want to get too wet either.

Suddenly she jogs the extra metre toward me and grabs my waist, pulling me close to her under her brolly.

My heart beat quickens when she adjusts her fingers to rest a little higher around my middle.

"Um... thanks, Wanda. You didn't need to do that."
"Y/n, don't be silly, you don't need to thank me." She giggles.
