So apparently I didn't hear that Sammie Johnson was in our cabin, because it comes as quite a shock when I walk in with Wanda from the bus to see she's already taken one of the top bunks."Wanda! I just knew we'd be in the same cabin! You should totally bunk with me!" She says, dropping to the floor from the bed.
I don't know why, but just the thought of Sammie being in our cabin makes my stomach churn. I've never really had a problem with her. I don't really have an opinion on her to be honest, but while she stands in front of us with her golden hair flowing over her shoulders and her eyes all twinkling at Wanda, I can't help but hate her.
Wanda agrees to the bed, so I decide to take the other bottom bunk before Molly can call dibs (soz Mols). Let's be honest, bottom bunks are better anyway.
After lunch, we're divided into activity groups. Of course our cabin is paired with Jenna's, which makes me and Wanda exchange a dissatisfied look.
Iris didn't say a word to me all lunch. She didn't even sit next to me, despite there being a seat beside both me and Ettie when she walked in.
I mean, of course she can sit next to Ettie, but I feel like she's avoiding me.
She said she was fine when I asked but I could tell she wasn't.
Our first activity after lunch is the zip-line. I stand at the top of the hill, and look up at the three flights of wooden stairs we now have to climb.
Although I'm already exhausted from the hill alone, it's honestly worth the sight. The view from up here is breathtaking. The lake sits bellow us to our right, sparkling in the sun. Canoes float gently along the surface and echoed chatter from their pilots can be heard from up here.
Sammie and Molly have already started up the stairs. They have become oddly aquatinted which is good I guess. I'll be able to partner with Wanda most of the time now.
I sigh and treck forward, towards the stairs. I stop though when I suddenly feel a lack of presence beside me.
"Wands?" I turn around and catch her nervous look before she tries to hide it. I furrow my eyebrows and ask her what's wrong.
"Maybe I should sit this one out. You go ahead. I'll watch from down here." She gives me a weak smile.
"Why? Are you feeling alright?" Taking a step closer, I gently place my hands on the sides of her face and press my lips to her forehead.
When I realise what I've done, I quickly stumble back a bit, my cheeks burning. I mumble a quick apology but Wanda's too flustered to speak. Her cheeks showing a soft pink as well.
"Uh.. n-no I'm fine. I just-" she looks past me at the stairs and then down in embarrassment.
"Wands, it's okay. I understand. We don't have to go if you don't wan-"
"What! Oh no no! Y/n! You still have to go. Plus.. it's not that I don't want to do it, because I do. I just... I really don't like heights. I'll be fine when I'm strapped in though." She places her palms on her eyes and presses down, obviously stressed out.
"Hey, Wands it's okay." I coo, before removing her hands and holding them. "How about we walk up together?"
At that moment, Jenna and her friends overtake us on the path. They suddenly all fall quiet, giving us derisive glances and smirking at one another. As soon as they pass us, they start snickering and whispering amongst themselves.
"What the hell was that about?" I think aloud.
"Who knows. But- yeah. Alright, let's do it." Wanda says firmly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
