Soul Shatter - Author's Notes

"No matter how badly you wish to help someone, your help will only matter to them when they are willing to accept it. Even in times where it is clear someone needs your aid; their own self-enforced mental barriers can be the difference between a positive and negative outcome. Maybe they are too stubborn and prideful to admit that they are suffering, or maybe they are simply in denial and don't wish to acknowledge the problem to begin with. But what if they are scared? What if they are confused? What if every instinct in their delirious mind is screaming at them to stop you, regardless of how well-meaning your actions are? But what if behind all of their paranoia, there was a terrifying truth to their fears?"

In The Purple Puppeteer, Dawktrap has two primary abilities. The first is his ability to use hypnotic imagery to mesmerise and subdue others. The second, and less used, ability is to physically manipulate the souls of his victims. He can remove them from a living body, inflict negative emotions directly into the soul, and of course, can hurt the souls too. I have written multiple chapters within The Purple Puppeteer, as well as short stories, where Dawktrap uses the first of his abilities. I think it is about time we explore the use of the second ability, too.

This isn't canon to The Purple Puppeteer, as it actually breaks one of the rules that its universe sets up, in regard to what causes soul colour. So, we will simply consider this a non-canon, "What If?" situation.
