After service was over I was trying to get outside as fast as I could, but of course, Mrs. Windchester caught me.
"Oh Gemma!! Gemma dear, slow down!!" I wanted to keep walking but I felt bad. Mrs. Windchesters is such a sweet women. She reminds me if my great grandmother that died last year. I turn and look at her with a smile.
"Good morning Mrs. Windchester, how are you?" I ask trying not to look at the god like human being standing next to her that was staring at me. He never looked away after we made eye contact when I first got to the church this morning. He sat two rows behind my family and I could feel his gaze burning holes in the back of my head.
"Good dear, how about?" Before she could give me time to answer she began to speak again, "this is my nephew Lucas, he lives with me, he is in your grade I do believe. 11th right? He goes to your school too. He has tons of friends and can show you around town!!" She said super excited.
I look at Lucas and introduce myself, "Hi Lucas, I'm Gemma" I put my hand out for him to shake and put on a friendly smile.
He smirks, takes my hand and kisses the top of it, his eyes never leaving mine. "Hello beautiful." My heart drops and I freeze. I stare into his eyes for what seems like forever, feeling lost in the deep blue color. They are like an entrance to something magical, some kind of door. There is something wrong though, they are open, and warm, but they have a since of bitterness, almost like he is guarding something.
I lose my train of thought when Mrs. Windchester clears her throat. I snap my head to look at her when I realize he did the same. I look at his hand to see it still holding mine, I quickly pull it back to my side, that's when he looks back at me.
"I will just leave you two alone then," the says to the both of us, "dear do you know where your mother is? I would like to speak with her, and thank her for all the help she has been the last two weeks." This I know was towards me, Mrs. Windchester got my mom to start going to church because she had asked her if she could go into town with her to help her buy groceries for those less fortunate that she donates every week.
"She should be up front talking to pastor Rick." She always talks to the pastor after service, it was her thing. Even though we have only been in this church for two weeks, she acts as if we have been here for two years.
I watch her walk away to go find my mom, I almost forgot that Lucas was by my side. This is until he grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards a door in the corner of the church. "Come with me." He whispers, almost half running now.
We make it to the door and that is when we start really running. I don't know where we are running too, but I stay by his side the whole. He is fast, but I bet I am faster. I start to pick up speed as I race up the hill. I pass him, I can hear him start to chuckle. I make it to the top and I am forced to stop. Upon the hill is a beautiful pond, with gorgeous flowers, and perfect trees that's leaves hang, reflecting off of the water. I am at a loss for words. It is moments like this that I wish I could paint. I remember that I have my phone in my pocket, I pull it out to take a picture.
"Wow, you are really good at taking pictures." I jump, once again forgetting that Lucas was beside me.
"Uhh, yeah I guess. It's mainly the camera that's good. I just click the button." I hear him laugh keeping my eyes on the scene in front of me. "Why did you bring me hear?" Asking suddenly. I didn't mean for that to sound rude, it just sort of came out.
"I don't know. Maybe because it's unique, like you."
I turn to look at him with a small smile forming in my lips to see him already looking at me.
"I'll race to the bottom." I challenge.
"On three...ready, one, two..." He didn't say three and he was off.
"Cheater.." I mumbled as I raced behind him.
