In the future the most popular sport is mech fighting, called Steel Drifting. It is a super fast sport using tall super fast mechs. Their are four people per team, each armed with a variety of weapons. The sport is mainly played at highschool, and only the most intelligent and best can pilot them. In a small town off the coast of Alaska there is the small town off Brail, the local team are the Blade Runners, the US', greatist team.
Matt Ackerman moves to the small town of Brail and enrolls into North Arctic High, home of the Blade Runners. At first he has no interest in joining the Blade Runners and want's to move back to Australia. He becomes friends with Jake one of the members of the school's engineering club, and a lead mechanic for Blade Runners. He and Jake watch one of the Runners matches, and meets the team. Later the Blade Runner's captain Aron, terrorizes the team after the do something worng. Matt shuts it down, and Aron is kicked off the team. He then goes on angry rampage seeking vengence. Matt hops into a Drifter and fights Aron wiht only a blade, and a three burst weapon, and on the original control scheme (Movement tracking) something considered impossible. After Aron is arrested, Matt is named team captain and put unto the team.
Matt leads the Blade Runners, In the international tounament. They also discover that Matt has a secret. He is name is actually Ryo Satsuki, the son of Tomoharu Satsuki inventor of the Steel Drifters. The team has many troubles along the way, and great misadventures. Together the Blade runners win the tournment, and become champions.
