Arriving home,
I walk in the door of my apartment where I'm greeted by Pepper and Dolly, my Dachshund and Chihuahua.
Pepper runs up first, a toy ball in her mouth as she goes.
"Hey Pepper! I know, it's past dinner time isn't it, I'm sorry" I pet her on the head as she was her little tail.
Dolly is the next to come over, barking all of her complaints, like the little Chihuahua she is.
"I know, I know. I'm getting your food now" the dogs follow me into the kitchen as I take out their kibble and pour it into their bowls.
They immediately begin to eat their dinner and I open up my phone to see someone calling me
"Hello? Estella Bailey speaking." It doesn't take long before the familiar tone is ringing in my ears once again.
"Yea, I know it's you, Estelle." Elias says over the line
"How did you find my number?" I question, slightly freaked out by this since it's only been an hour since I've left his house
"Backgrounds checks. I do them on all of my employees. It Included your phone number" muffled talking comes from the other end of the line but I pay no mind to it.
"Okay..what what are you calling me for?" I ask, now annoyed because he had a background check done on me and who wouldn't be mad if someone did that to you
" I want you to meet me at my club tomorrow in the afternoon. Also, I want you to quit your job as well, seeing as you'll no longer need the money they're paying you" I hear the smugness in his voice as he speaks
"Right. I'll do that. Now, I am about to go to bed. Goodnight" I begin to fire up my oven and put an egg on my frying pan, waiting for it to heat up.
"Goodnight, Stella" he then hangs up as I wonder where 'Stella' came from.
I feel sharp claws scratching at my leg, where Dolly is.
"What's wrong, baby? You ready for bed?" I pick her up and walk over to her princess dog bed to tuck her in.
I put her down where she circles around the bed before finally dozing off.
I fluff her pillows and put her little blanket over her as she huffs for me to go away.
After petting her head and turning off the living room light, I return back to the kitchen where my egg is almost finished.
I place the egg on the plate and head over to the island separating the small kitchen and living room.
I quietly eat my dinner, trying to awaken Dolly as Pepper hops on my lap and whines at me to pet her belly.
"Hey, Pepper." I smile at her
"I'm sorry I have to keep you cooped up here all day" I gesture to the little apartment we live in
"But, I just got a new job and it pays well so hopefully we will be out soon" she hops off my lap and goes to lay down with Dolly in the bed.
"All I want if for you two to gave a good little doggy life" I peck Pepper on the head before tucking her in with a separate blanket and take my plate to the sink.
I wash and dry it before storing it away before heading to my bedroom from which I can hear the dogs snoring together.

As I step into the shower,
I began to think back to the moment I found Pepper and Dolly, they were out on the streets in front of my apartment.
I found Pepper first, she was malnourished and was infested with fleas, took a while to get her to trust me but with time and patience it all worked out.
Dolly on the other hand was a lot more difficult to capture.
She kept hiding behind a dumpster that's behind the building and refused to come out, even when I left food, she wouldn't eat it.
It took around 2 months for me to finally get her to eat but she did eventually and that's all that matters.
When I finally got a good look at her, though, she had fur ripped out and what looked like BB gun bullets in her side.
After a surgery and a lot of money spent at the vet, she was good as new!
Now, her cute little white furs have grown back and she's as pretty as ever, just as sassy too.
I smile to myself before turning off the hot water and exiting the shower.
I dry off and get dressed I'm my pajamas as I walk out, and get into my bed.
The door creams slightly and in comes Pepper, with her little blanket in her mouth, dragging behind her.
She hops on the side of my bed, beckoning me to pick her up so she can sleep with me.
"Did you have a nightmare? It's okay, you can stay with me tonight" I chuckle and pick her pit as she immediately goes underneath my blanket to cuddle up with me.
I turn off my lamp and she climbs into my arms and we drift off to sleep together.
