                                                                                Tsunami

Tsunami swam through the water at top speed, forcing herself not to turn and look back. Tsunami could sense the aquatic conversation happening above her in the cave, but she could also sense her daughter below her in the hatchery, trying so hard to get out of her shell. Tsunami took a sharp turn and swerved into the tunnel that led to the royal hatchery, being careful not to smash the Coral and queen Anemone statues in the entryway with her tail. The guards stood outside the door with their spears pointed up to the stone tunnel roof.  They saluted and bowed when tsunami swam up on them. They parted, and one guard pushed open the door with his tail  for tsunami, and she turned to give the guard her thanks. The guard smiled happily and when tsunami rushed into the hatchery the guard swam over to the other guard to tell him joyfully what tsunami had just done. Tsunami's head whipped around the hatchery searching for her dragonet. Her gaze froze on a sky blue egg alone on one of the pedestals carefully nestled between some seaweed and sea shells.

Tsunami swam over and nestled her self around the pedestal, and carefully took the egg away from it's spot in the seaweed. She placed it in between her arms and lay down. She curled into a sleeping position and watched the egg, with an expression on her face like she was ready to love this dragonet no matter what. Oh man I hope snail gets along with her. tsunami thought hopefully. She froze. her. she had said her. tsunami  felt that feeling and realized she knew it was a girl. Suddenly a sky blue dragon burst into the cave. Tsunami jumped and covered her egg with her wing to protect it. She barred her teeth at the newcomer, who swam towards her his scales flashing "tsunami! It me, riptide! I have snail, but shush will you? He's sleeping." Tsunami nodded, replacing her protective look with a relived smile as riptide dropped a wing down to his talons and tsunami spotted her first dragonet; snail. Snail was dark green with golden luminescent scales and wings, and he lay on Riptide's back his tail twitching in his sleep.

Riptide lay down in the water, his tail curling around tsunami's and he gently woke snail up. He opened his eyes, blinking several times before riptide carefully picked him up and placed him on the floor of the hatchery around the egg. " your sisters' in there" riptide flashed, nodding towards the egg. Snail tapped it lightly and flashed " I happy that I have sister now." Tsunami suddenly remembered she hadn't taught him much aquatic yet. "Yes, my little one" she flashed back, bopping snail's nose. "Call her current" riptide flashed. "Maybe. We'll see" she flashed back. Suddenly a spidery crack burst through that egg shell, revealing a small leg wiggling helplessly as it desperately tried to escape. Riptide sat up, searching the egg as if looking for another hole. Snail got up from the stone floor and swam over to the egg. He poked away the sharp bits of egg, creating a bigger hole for the dragonet. The dragonet pulled her leg back as soon as she could and then shoved out a talon. The talon felt around the air as if it was looking for something by feeling. Snail gently took hold of the dragonets talon and helped take away parts of the egg shell. He carefully removed the egg from the dragonet and held her gently.

He cradled her and wiped away the goo from her snout. Tsunami smiled, swimming forward to look at her dragonet, and sit with riptide. Tsunami looked down to see her dragonet, as her face turned upwards to tsunami. A tremor of shock ran through tsunami as she saw her newly hatched dragonets eyes. A silvery-blue film ran over her eyes and the dragonet blinked as if trying to clear a blur in her vision. Tsunami shuddered and looked to riptide, her happy face washed away to show fear, worry, sadness, and a bit of surprise. But not good surprise. Riptide hadn't noticed yet, but he immediately noticed her face, and touched her snout with his. "What's wrong honey? Can't decide on a name? After-hatching worries? What else is there to worry about? We have a dragonet Tsunami! A real dragonet! And look she's perfect!" He flashed taking their dragonet away from snail and holding it in his talons. He looked down into his dragonet's eyes and smiled. Then he noticed it. He held their dragonet closer to his face, his smile fading slightly. "What's that film on her eyes?" Riptide asked tsunami worriedly. "Riptide" tsunami flashed lifting riptide's face to look at her.

"No dragonet can be perfect. Not even anemone. You know she thinks she is" she flashed. "But..but..." he flashed, as if trying to understand the meaning of life, as if he was the one who just came out of the egg. "She's blind, Riptide. There's is nothing we can do about it. Just accept it" she flashed. Riptide lifted his head to tsunami defiantly. "I don't care how messed up she is, I'll love her anyway." He flashed wrapping a wing around his family. "Me too" snail flashed, patting his sister's head. After a moment Tsunami decided, "me too. And we'll call her...Current"
