the question took me by surprise as droplets of sweat started to form on my forehead. i wasn't expecting her to ask so fast.
"o-oh! well.." i started, trying to stall enough time for myself to think of an answer.
my palms started to feel damper by the second as i felt the beating of my heart speed up.
it was hitting right against my chest and each beating sounded louder than the previous. for the first time, i was so desperate for haruto to help me out. anything! please!
"introverted." he finally blurted out.
his mom tilted her head, clearly puzzled as she looked back at me.
"what he means is i've always been introverted my w-whole life up until recently.." i smiled awkwardly, fidgeting with my fingers underneath the table.
"it was when ogres attacked my-" haruto cut me off as he briefly told his mom that he did all the rescuing while i, quoting haruto, "sat there and cried like a baby."
which is not true at all! i did not even shed a tear! but it would be rude to correct her own son in front d her so i made it a point to shut up... but just this once!
"ahh.. you take every opportunity to brag huh? just like your dad indeed," she smiled softly as she handed me a cup of tea.
"i'm glad you mustered enough courage to befriend this one. he's a tough shell," she grinned mischievously as she patted my shoulder gently. haruto scoffed at the comment, crossing his arms. i glanced at him before saying,
"oh he really is," i rolled my eyes at haruto as his mother nodded, laughing a little at him.
it was getting late and so, mrs watanabe offered to let us stay the night since haruto's place was quite a distance from here. as i was washing my face in the toilet, i looked at the outfit i had on and realised i had no clothes whatsoever.
i sighed, annoyed.
i should really get some clothes.
i knocked at the room haruto and i were made to share as i creaked open the door, not waiting for a response because... why would i? i wanted to quickly wash up and get some rest. been a crazy week.
the lights seeped into the room and i was met with a sight that i can never forget.
a shirtless haruto stood before me; his toned 6-pack and lean build sent electricity throughout my body but my hands reacted first, quickly covering my eyes followed by a shrieked. though i covered my eyes, the inage of his body kept replaying in my head. his forearms were pale, with veins that wrapped all around his arms and hands. i did notice this at first, but his hands were so big and petite at the same time— almost as if he came out of a cartoon.
"what is it?!" he said, slightly annoyed.
"a shirt! i need a shirt.." i called out all defensive, still covering my eyes like my life depended on it. i put one of my hands out, trying to feel my surroundings for the shirt until my hand came into contact with what seemed like his arm.
