"Lisa," Jennie whispered, eyes heavy with tears as she watched her body glow. She had to squint to even keep looking at her, the glow too bright. Jisoo knelt down next to Jennie, an arm over her shoulders.
"Baby girl-"
Jennie shook her head and reached for Lisa again but Jisoo held her back. She tried to shake her off. "Stop."
"She's gone," Jisoo said, tears apparent in her voice
"She's not," Jennie gritted out angrily, tears cascading down her cheeks. She shrugged Jisoo off of her and reached for Lisa again. She could feel her solid under her fingers, but her hands sunk below the light in an unpleasant way. "Lisa! You wake up, damnit!"
The sniffling of the Lost Boys around them was distracting, the way some of them just broke down crying. Couldn't they see that Lisa was fine? Alive?
"Lisa!" Jennie cried again, voice rough from the grief taking over her entire body.
The glow around Lisa's body began to fade and Jennie watched on in horrified fascination as her skin came back into view. Her eyes were wide, staring blankly at the sky and Jennie felt her hope disappear. She practically threw herself over Lisa's body, head resting on her chest as she let out a silent sob that twisted her throat.
"I just got you," Jennie whispered into Lisa's shirt, staining the material with her tears. "Please."
"It's okay, Little Bird," came a voice that sounded eerily like Lisa's. Her chest jumped with a cough and Jennie quickly lifted her head to look at Lisa, hoping this wasn't some cruel trick. Lisa reached for Jennie's arm, as she blinked up at the sky, still coughing.
Jennie cupped Lisa's cheek in her hand and looked over her face, searching for any sign that this wasn't real or that this somehow wasn't her Lisa. Her hopeful heart fluttered when brown eyes turned to her and smiled.
"Lisa," Jennie breathed. "You're...are you real?"
Lisa's smile widened, dimples popping. "Of course. Why wouldn't I be?"
Jennie threw her arms around Lisa's neck, this time sobbing in relief as she pressed her face into her neck to feel the warmth of her skin and the steady beat of her heart. Lisa held her close, a hand cradling the back of her head and keeping her close.
"I thought you were dead," Jennie croaked, as she pulled away again to hold Lisa's face in her hands.
Lisa tilted her head and smiled back. "I came back for you."
Jennie half laughed, half sobbed before she closed the gap between them and kissed Lisa's lips, soft and yielding under her own once more. For a moment they were in a bubble, just the two of them. She could hear the small hum coming from Lisa's throat like it was in her own, overcome with the scent of the ocean and Lisa. Strong hands settled on Jennie's waist and Lisa slowly sat up, their lips never disconnecting.
The happy shouts around them burst their bubble soon enough and Jennie pulled away, resting her forehead on Lisa's. She sniffled and Lisa nuzzled their noses together with a smile. Jennie smiled so wide her eyes crinkled to half moons, and Lisa kissed her again before they were jostled apart.
Jisoo practically pushed them apart and hugged Lisa tightly, Bohyun and everyone else joining in on a big group hug. Jennie felt a little crowded and out of place so she stood up with the intention of getting out of the way, but Lisa grabbed her hand. She looked down at Lisa who smiled up at her, lacing their fingers together.
"Wait, Jennie," Lisa said as she stood, tugging Jennie close. She leaned down and kissed her cheek, whispering, "Stay with me."
"Okay," Jennie said, something warm in her heart pulling her even closer to Lisa. She wrapped her arm around Lisa's waist, hand resting on her lower back as Lisa put her arm over Jennie's shoulder. Lisa kissed Jennie's forehead before turning back to everyone else.
