AUTHORS NOTE : This one-shot is a little short but I hope it's fine! This was the idea that actually made me consider doing a one shot book, so it's actually interesting that it's this far back in uploading....anyways, not accurate, blah blah blah. Enjoy! 💙

Ghost walked through the deep forest, weaving in between trees and over fallen branches. He found the nature peaceful at night although he always carried a simple pistol on him at all times; just in case. There was one particular spot he always found himself wandering off too, a small lake only about a 20 minute walk from the base. A rather large waterfall adorned the pool of water, giving it a light coolness on humid nights.
He'd often spend hours out there, maybe even the whole night just smoking and listening to his handheld radio that always ended up in his pocket whenever he had these trips. Staring at the stars and finding different constellations had become a hobby for him to pass the time away from the base. He really never had time during or in between missions to really admire the true beauty of the world around him as it was always disrupted by chaos or corrupted remains.
He continued on his way, following the same path he always had when a small snap sounded behind him, causing him to quickly swivel to face the noise. His eyes darted around the dark area and observed the forest which was otherwise completely still. He let out a shallow breath before turning around and deeming it a small animal or bird.
Turning the last corner and his eyes gazed upon the lake, as beautiful as ever and glistening in the moonlight. It was a full moon tonight, casting a shadowy but enchanting glow on the whole exposed area. He led himself over to a small boulder and sat down before rummaging through his pant pocket for his cigarettes and a lighter which he found with ease.
Next he pulled out his radio and sat it down beside him. He fiddled with it for a bit before it crackled and buzzed to life connecting to a random radio station host who was chattering away. Ghost lit a cigarette and held it between his fingers, inhaling occasionally. Another sharp noise caused him to be alerted again, this time about 10 meters behind him. He pulled out his gun and turned to face the tree line and peered in where he saw something shine in reflection to the moonlight.
"Oi. Who the fuck are you? Come out." He yelled, aiming his gun at the still shimmering metal object. A body walked out wearing causal clothing and revealing the shining object to be just a phone in the pocket. Soap. "Sorry L.T, didn't mean to scary ya." He replied through chuckles. Ghost let down his guard a bit and lowered the gun to his side.
"Sergeant. What are you doing out here? It's late." He whispered loud enough that he could hear. Soap shot him a look that basically said 'I could ask you the same' before replying. "I saw you walk out here and followed you." Ghost nodded slowly in acknowledgement before finally placing his gun back in his vest pocket and returning to his original position on the boulder.
"What are you doing out here so late anyways?" Soap chimed in through curious eyes. "It's quiet out here, sometimes I like to watch the sunrise." He muttered back, this time barely audible to even himself. Soap didn't reply, just sitting down next to him and staring at the stars above.
The trees swayed as a gentle breeze swept through the open area, sending shivers down Soaps spine. "Fuck it's cold out here, how do you survive out here like this?" He smiled at his own remark. "For a soldier, you really aren't good with the elements Johnny." Soaps heart fluttered at the name that he had heard quite a few times before, it just felt different in this occasion. Ghost took off one of his layers which happened to be a huge black jacket and handed it to him and he immediately scrambled to put it on.
"This smells like cigarettes and gunpowder.—" He whispered and nuzzled himself into the collar of the coat. "— It smells like you." He finished. Ghost smiled under his mask and turned to face the smaller male. He watched Soap carefully and admired his features. He admired the visibly rough texture of his face, the colour of his bright blue eyes to even the curve of his jawline. To him, he was absolutely beautiful. Not that he would ever let a single soul alive know that.
The radio chimed as a slow song began to play, catching Soaps attention. "Hey, Ghost?" He turned his head slightly to acknowledge him with a slight hum. "This is going to sound really stupid, and you really don't have to—" He started before Ghost cut him off. "Spit it out Sergeant." His tone was rough but relaxed and slightly tired.
"Dance with me?"
"What?"
Ghost was stunned, just staring into his eyes when Soap stood up, turned and offered his hand to him. He let out a sigh before taking Soap's hand and helping him to pull himself up. "I can't dance Johnny." There it was again, his heart skipped a beat. "C'mon, nobody is around, just dance with me and follow my lead..." He trailed off when he locked eyes with Ghost who was now standing in front of him being stubborn as ever.
"Fine, if Ghost won't dance with me, maybe Simon will?" He whispered with a smirk playing on his lips as his hands reached up to grab his balaclava. Ghost immediately grabbed his hands and stopped them in place, causing Soaps face to contort into a sad expression. Ghost's grip loosened suddenly and he led his hands to the base of the mask, inviting him silently.
Blush creeped up Soap's cheeks — not that you could see it in the dark anyways — as he slowly pulled the balaclava over his features. He slowly revealed his jaw, then his lips, his nose and then he saw his eyes. It wasn't long before the mask was completely removed and Soap stood ogling at Simon's face. His blonde hair was shittily cut around the edges, clearly hand done by the one and only. His eyes burned creators into Soaps, somehow glowing brighter than ever even in the dark shadow of the night around them.
Simon let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding as he guided his hands to Soaps waist and pulling him closer. Soap gasped at the contact before placing his arms around his neck and leaning into his huge wall of a chest as Simon began to sway them both. "I thought you couldn't dance..." Soap chuckled at his own statement.
"No" He paused. "Ghost can't dance." He returned a similar chuckle as he spun Soap away and pulled him back in just the same and held him close. The two of them continued to play a classical dance to random tunes that appeared on the radio. The songs always seemed to suit the exact dance steps they were making as if fate was coaching them on in this moment.
Simon twirled him out again, this time pulling him back in and dipping him. A moment had gone past when he realised what he had done. He was kissing Soap. Simon broke away and took a few steps back, apologising profusely and cursing to himself. Soap silently ran up to him and connected their lips again. This time, both men melted into the kiss, it was in no way rough or awkward. It was as perfect as if they'd done it a thousand times before, even though they had never gotten close enough to even hug before.
Simon was the one to break the kiss as he turned to face the waterfall. Just above it you could see the first rays of daylight shimmering across the forest rooftop, occasionally leaking onto the forest floor around them. A smile grew on his lips as he faced Soap again, his eyes saying exactly what he wanted to but couldn't. Soap realised this and decided it was on him to say it first.
"I love you, Simon."
"Love you too Johnny,"
