(I apologize for how long this took, ideas are running short and a lot has been going on irl for me, so it's been hard trying to find time to write. I hope you enjoy this chapter though! Thank for your being patient.)Sasha's Perspective
I sat on the swing of the old playground I met Anne and Marcy at. I can't believe that Anne asked us to meet here...this place had too many memories, most of the ones that came to my mind were horrible. Why couldn't I just show up at her doorstep?
It felt like I'd been waiting for eternity. Where was she? Did she get lost or something? I started to rock myself on the old swing, the swing creaking as it swayed. Bored, I checked my phone, and it started dinging. Anne had sent me something. I unlocked my phone and went to messages, and turns out she left me a voice memo. That was..unusual. I pressed play.
" Hey Sash!" My phone started to echo Anne's voice. I could hear faint yet firm footsteps in the background, " I know it's unusual for me to send you a video or voice memo for a message that I can simply just type out, but I did it this way so you know I'm not being sarcastic or dry or anything. Want ya to know how I truly feel and sound. Anywho, I'm sorry about the fact that I'm taking so long, I just left the house. I wanted to..try something new. Oh and there was a bunch of questions my mom me asked before I left the house. She's still extra protective over me! Haha! Oh, and, I'll get there as fast as I can. Should be about.. five..to ten..minutes? Maybe a little later? Or sooner? Anyway, See you soon! " Anne went silent for a moment, but the memo continued to play. All I could hear now was her footsteps and singing birds every now and then, " Oh crap, I didn't realize this was still on! Uh!? How do you turn this off?! " I could hear that she started to tap the screen frantically, and then the memo stopped playing. I smiled and I laughed a bit. It was nice to hear that goof's sweet voice. It was pretty comforting, especially during times like these. Anne always found a way to make life more enjoyable for anyone." Sasha! " I suddenly heard a yowl. I reached for my jeans pocket and I looked around in a frantic panic.
" Sasha! Relax! It's just me. " I finally recognized that it was Anne's voice talking.
" Oh thank the stars.. " I sighed. I let my arm rest, and I looked up and saw her,
" Woah..Anne you look- "" Different? I know. I just..thought I could use a change, " She murmured.
" I like it, " I complimented her, " It really suits you. "
" Thank you. Also, sorry that I startled you. I forgot for a moment how 'on guard' you are. "
" Still a toad solider at heart, " I put my hand on my chest and held my head up high. That quickly faded and I looked back to the ground, " I just hope I can let it go soon.. "
" Well, I think it's kinda cute. " Anne smiled.
Cute? Anne thought that it was cute?
" W-Well, " I choked out, " You remember what I said, once we met, I wanted to get out of this place. It brings back too many old memories.. "
" Yeah.. I see what you mean.. " Anne shuttered, " But..some of it was great though, right? "
" Yeah, I guess.. " I sighed. I sat up from the creaky swing and observed the area one last time. Paint was peeling, plastic was cracking, wood was chipping, chain was corroding. It's hard to imagine that three, young three and four year olds could have fun here today. This place used to look a lot more lively, colorful, and less damaged. It was full of life and joy.
" C'mon, lets get going. " I said at last, breaking the silence between us.
" Right, " Anne huffed. We both started to exit the premises. I looked back at it one last time.
" Goodbye.. " I whispered under my breath. We started to head down the walkway, our footsteps firm. I looked down at my feet and shoved my hands in my jacket pocket while I walked. Nothing else was in my thoughts, besides the fact that I'm very worried about Marcy. I just hope that she's going to be okay." Sasha wait! " I heard Anne exclaim I looked up and realized she wasn't beside me, " We were supposed to turn, " She laughed.
I looked back and saw her down the corner. I raced over to her and we continued walking. We were almost at Marcy's house...I think? No, I know. Anne knows where she's going.
" We're almost here, " She told me, " It's the next house over on the left, "
I nodded and we continued walking. I looked over and saw Marcy's house. The white and dark turquoise coloring seemed to be the more distinctive and decorative from all of the other homes on the street. We turned up the fashionable drive-way. The small water fountain on the side spewed with glistening water and the breeze ruffled through the plants that enclosed the small two-story home.
I felt Anne grasp my hand and she pulled me up the driveway and onto the doorstep. She knocked on the door. We heard slight commotion on the other side of the purple-gray door. I noticed the knob started twitching, so I stepped back. The door cracked open and we saw Mrs. Wu greet us at the door." Oh! Hello girls. Please, come inside! " Mrs. Wu welcomed us. Anne dipped her head and we both stepped inside. We took off our shoes at the front and I admired the beauty of the Wu home on the inside.
" So, Anne, Sasha, what brings you two around? " Mrs. Wu asked us.
" Well, we wanted to see how Marceline was putting up, " I told her, " If that's okay with you of course. "
" Oh, no problem at all! Marceline is upstairs, though she confined herself in her room.. I've just been giving her space, but I'm really starting to worry, " Mrs. Wu sighed, " I hope seeing you two will enlighten her. "
" We're worried about her also, " Anne huffed.
" Well, thank you for your concern girls. Here's the key if you need it, " Mrs. Wu picked up a key and she gave it to Anne, " If you have to, just open the door yourself. You can go on now, I won't take up anymore of your time. "
" Thank you, Mrs. Wu. " Anne thanked Marcy's mother again, " C'mon Sasha. "We made it to the top of the stairs. I released my grip on the handrail and we were approached by two doors. One was cracked open a little, so it obviously wasn't Marcy's room.
I knocked on the other door. It was silent for a moment, but then I heard a faint voice.
" Go away... " I heard a mumble.
" Marcy? It's us, Sasha and Anne. Can we please come in? We're really worried about you, " Anne called.
" I said go away.. " Marcy's voice started to sound more aggressive. I took a quiet step back and looked over at Anne.
" Should we use the key Mrs. Wu gave us? " I whispered.
" I wouldn't want to invade her privacy, " Anne sighed.
" I don't want to either, but she normally doesn't shut out people like this. We have to find out what's wrong with her. "
" Alright, " Anne lifted the key up, " Fine, "
Anne walked up closer to the door and put her hand on the white wood. She inserted the key into the silver colored knob and tried to turn it. After a little struggle, the key turned over to the side.
" I hope we don't regret this, " Anne huffed. She took the key out, turned the knob and pushed the door open. Anne's face filled with shock. She backed away slowly, and I noticed tears starting to trickle down her face. She covered her mouth and refused to say a word.
" What's wr- " My words trailed out as I noticed what Anne was so shocked about. " M-Marcy..? "
