My hand moved quickly up as it covered my mouth, muffling an uncontrolled shriek. I could hear a high mumble escape through my fingers, telling me I failed to cover up my sound. An anxious feeling rushed beneath my skin, while my respiratory system increased.

"There it was again" I thought as the sound came from the hallway again. quickly I stepped back making my upper legs bumped against my chair, slightly pushing it back.

My eyes moved to Michelle who was clearly shaken too. Her small blue eyes had widened themself as one of her hands rested on her chest, trying to regain her calm.

I could hear the clock softly ticking with every second that passed by, while we stayed completely silent.

Within seconds our eyes quickly glanced towards each other before they rushed back towards the hallway.

"What was that?" Michelle whispered softly as I quickly shrugged my shoulders and pulled the corners of my mouth down. I had no idea what that was to be honest.

Scared, I gasped as I heard it again. From the corners from my eyes I could see Michelle slightly jump as she didn't expect the sudden sound either.

My heart rushed behind my sternum as I tried to swallow. I wasn't sure if it was adrenaline, bravery or plain stupidity as I gently pushed myself away from the table and softly started tiptoeing towards the hallway.

"Am, Don't go" I could hear Michelle hiss in a whisper almost aggressively, trying to warn me for something unknown.

"Stop that" I whispered nervously back as I jumped at her sudden words.

I could not believe what I was seeing as I looked at Michelle's nervous face as she tried to hold back a nervous laugh. "Bitch" I thought nervously at Michelle's inappropriate behavior.

Quietly my lungs filled themself with air as I took a deep breath. Feeling unsure I grabbed all my courage together, while I took another step.
As quiet as I could I walked towards the hallway, Carefully I sticking my head around the corner.

The hallway was empty, there was simply nothing out of the ordinary. "Outside" my head quickly warned me, and within a second my eyes stared at the dark wooden door.

For a moment I could do nothing but to stay still, staring at a closed door, hoping for a answer to come along in time but,

Nothing...

Nothing happened as I quickly pulled my head back into the living room. From the corner of my eyes I could see Michelle as she had found her courage to carefully walk towards me.

Her feet softly tapped on the floor, until they stopped right beside me. I could feel her warm breath in my neck, before we quickly looked around the corner again.

Silent we must have both stared like two dumasses at the unmoved closed front door.

"Is it colin?" Michelle asked as I could hear nails softly scratch over the floorboard of my porch.

"Walking on all four?" I replied as I shook my head in disbelief.

"Besides that, why would he crawl on my porch at 20.00 pm?" I thought almost amused yet terrified at the possibility. Besides that Michelle was a lot, but sometimes she was not the sharpest tool in the shed if it came to reasonable thinking.

I pulled myself out of my thoughts while my eyes fell on a broom that stood lost in the corner.

"You can't be serious" I could hear Michelle say, as I tip-toed towards the corner. Quickly I grabbed the wooden stick of the broom, holding it like a baseball bat before carefully I placed my hand on the doorknob.
