As the paved path leading to the garage came into view, I heard loud music. The bongos, strings and castanets got louder as I got closer to the white washed villa. The green grass which was usually undisturbed was being trampled on by the feet of a pack of party animals.
Driving past them I heard the clunking of beer bottles and saw some real skillful dancing. It wasn't the usual drunk dancing I saw at parties. It was amazing. The music was almost hypnotic, the beat had everyone moving. The fast feet, the way the girls were flying around, the connection between each pair as they moved in sync, it was full of passion.
I drove past the house, leaving the party behind me. With the garage a few metres away I pressed the garage door button on the remote and waited for it to ascend upwards. It took a few seconds before the doorway was fully uncovered and the lights all clicked on. It made me think about the first day at the garage and finding out that Dorado deliberately took the piss by opening up the entrance slowly the night before. Yeah, I really needed to get him back.
After I had put the car in the garage I made my way towards the back entrance. Dodging people along the way I climbed the stairs onto the veranda and searched for Dorado. He wasn't there so I opened the door and entered the kitchen.
Immediately the stench of beer hit me. Despite the kitchen being empty, it was cluttered. The usually clear marble worktops were scattered with bottles. The central island was covered with trays of food, and heaps of plastic cups and plates. Judging from the height of the stacks I was guessing the party had just started since not much of the food seemed to have been touched. As for the cups, they didn't seem to be of any use since the beers were in bottles.
Deciding that I needed to quench my thirst I grabbed a bottle from the fridge. Just as I turned around and kicked the fridge door close while looking down at the bottle, two heavy duty boots appeared. I looked up, took a sip from the bottle and looked into his eyes as if to question his silence.
"Did you just kick my fridge door? The one that I had custom made for this kitchen?"
"Me," I pointed towards myself. "No, of course not."
"No wonder I finding dents, you been kicking all the doors."
"Hey. No I haven't. Not all..just the fridge door." I corrected.
"Alannah how many times, no kicking things you can't afford." He smiled and grabbed a bottle of beer.
I rolled my eyes and leaned against the counter while taking another sip. Dorado stood on the other side of the central island with a puzzled look on his face.
"What?"
"This is party, right?"
Did he have too much to drink? He seemed pretty sober until he questioned whether he was at a party or not.
"Are you alright? You planned this remember. Think you need to lay off the alcohol. It's got to your memory and -"
"Alcohol, exactly. Alcohol."
"Yeah, alcohol?" I questioned perplexed.
"This is party. We all having great time, letting go, celebrating-"
Just as I realised what he may have been trying to be getting at I shifted the topic.
"Yeah thought this was a party to celebrate me finishing the car. How did you start without me?"
"Oh, the party celebrating you start when you enter that room. The party celebrating other people who finish car started when they entered."
"My competition are all here? That explains why all of those cars are parked outside. You could of told me that before, I thought you actually were doing something nice for me, for once."
