Zahra Okasha didn't remember how she ended up in her situation.
The suffocation of the raging heat and pyramid consumed every fibre in her body, running through her veins as her knees dug into the scorching sand below her. The Egyptian woman couldn't find memories of how she came to be there, no matter where she looked. She didn't know anything.
"Zahra Okasha," A voice spoke loudly.
The voice echoed and surrounded Zahra, with the brunette looking up towards where it was coming from. There, towering above her, was a Goddess...clothed in gold and black, a golden hawk-element crown covering half of her face. Wings sat against her back and Zahra wondered whether the Goddess could fly.
"Do not be frightened," The voice continued. "I am Nephthys, the one you agreed to rescue you from death."
"Death?" Zahra questioned breathlessly.
"Your memory will come back in due time," Nephthys promised. "I healed you but you were injured far before the accident, I will spare you the details."
"Why?" Zahra asked as she looked at the blood on her clothing. "Do I know you?"
"You agreed upon your life that you would serve as my avatar and allow me to see the world through your eyes. You shall protect those who need protecting, those who the world considers lower forms of life," The god explained. "We protect the good but try to save the souls of the evil before it consumes them."
Zahra couldn't exactly say 'No' to a god when she didn't even understand anything that had happened in her life, including her age or family. Yet, she seemed to gain the knowledge of the Egyptian gods like a flash of lightning, sparking a lightbulb in her brain that lit waves of information.
"Why don't I have solid memories?" Zahra allowed a tear to run down her face. "Why can I only remember information but not the people I could have known, the life I lived?"
"It has been centuries since I have brought one back from near death, you were so far gone that you were gone to the mortal world," Nephthys replied. "I do not know the effects of doing so, I haven't had an avatar in thousands of years. But you...you have a good heart. Do you wish to protect people who weren't as lucky?"
Zahra just knew that keeping people safe seemed right. Losing her memories is something she couldn't even explain the feeling to but she hated it, it filled her with so much confusion and she didn't want that for anyone else.
"Upon your right wrist, you have been marked by the hawk," Nephthys informed her. "It's a symbol of my loyalty...a memory catcher of sorts. One only needs to feel emotion towards you, of a good life you lived with them, and upon connecting, you shall find what you seek."
"Cryptic but I can work with that," Zahra mumbled. "What now?"
"Now, you rise as my avatar."
Zahra allowed her eyes to glow vibrant gold, black ribbons leaving around her body to create a shield against the harsh sand – gold-plated armour formed from her waist belt to her shoulders, folding to cover part of her arms. Gold and leather bracelets snapped to her forearms, a mask to her face and a golden headpiece, fit with a hawk symbol, wrapped around her head. With a gush of win, a black hood and cape fell down behind her.
They would see her coming and they would remember her.
