CROCUS:
Cheerfulness, Love, Youthful Joy

It was never going to be simple. That much could have been guessed from the very start.

Steve Harrington and Bowie Rogers had been best friends for the majority of their lives. It was too ordinary to be permanent. If it had been completely simple, then perhaps, things might have been easier for them. If they hadn't known each other so well they might not have resorted to the situation that they ended up in.

That being, Bowie never expected to wake up in the same bed as Steve... naked. For quite some time, he stared at he ceiling, hands on his stomach over the covers. He had woken up first, and didn't dare wake up his friend. There was already tension, and he hadn't even woke up yet.

It was Sunday, so they didn't have to be anywhere which was nice. It also meant that Steve wouldn't have an excuse to leave.

When the elder of the two boys did wake up, he too seemed lost, and unknowing of what to do. They had been so happy and full of life only hours ago. That needed to return. Bowie needed it to come back.

They got dressed; Steve went in the bathroom so Bowie wouldn't see. That was the first time he had ever been self conscious about how he looked. It didn't suit him at all.

"So..." Steve sighed, pulling the door open to find a shirtless Bowie. It wasn't often that the blonde felt comfortable like that, especially since he was bonier than most.

"Yeah..." Bowie trailed.

"I don't..."

"Just-"

Steve gulped, nervously. "Don't-"

"Maybe we should..."

"Forget about it? Yeah." Steve nodded his head like some great businessman finalising a deal. "Yeah. I think we should."

"No." Bowie retaliated, louder than he thought he would be. Thankfully, no one apart from Rex was home, and he could sleep through a hurricane. "No, I was going to say that we should talk about it."

"Talk?" It took him aback, a little.

"Yeah, you know," Bowie felt anger unlike anything else he had ever felt before. He was regretting everything they had done together, and everything he had ever trusted Steve with. This was something precious he had given to his best friend; he would never be able to get it back. "Like adults, like normal human beings."

He scoffed. "You've never been normal."

"Okay, then! Like best friends!" He spat. "Because were supposed to be best friends!"

"What did you want me to do?" Steve seethed. "Say no and stay besties?"

"Did you want to say no?" Bowie's heart dropped into the pit of his stomach.

"That's not the point!"

"Isn't it?"

"No!"

"Then what is?" Bowie gulped. He wasn't sure if he really wanted to know. "I'm dying to hear you tell me."

"You wanted this." Steve retorted, harshly, jabbing a finger at his friend.
