Being Asian myself, it's safe to say that traditions are very strong here. In Asian culture, every son is deemed a heir and successor. In conservative families, every son is supposed to follow his parent's will, disobeying parents would be looked upon as "losing face" - losing honor and respect, which risks putting shame on the whole kin. Many are afraid to come out to their family, and Tae was one of them.
