The Fairground

CARINA POV

There's so many lights, rides, and food.. why do Americans feel the need to make everything bigger or have more than needed. I think that while eyeing up a magnificent Ferris wheel, I hope Maya takes me there before we leave.

I've realised with Maya that she loves to have an order to things whether that's how she shops, her desk or the order she buys her food in, so I wasn't surprised to see her buying a map and mentally memorising where she wants to go, I think it's adorable.

While we walk I ask Maya why she chose this place to which she answers. "I went here when I was a child, it was really the only place I could feel like a normal kid. Of course, that all changed when my dad and I started to train track. But then track took over my life, my way of bonding with my dad. Sure, we had disagreements but he made me better, he helped me become captain. I haven't told him about my injury, I know I'll just disappoint him." she says in one breath. I feel like I will always be shocked when it comes to stories about her dad. We carried on walking in silence as I took in what she had said so casually.

MAYA POV

We finally made our way to the arcade; it wasn't really an arcade. Just an outside selection of games such as cornhole, coconut throw, skee-ball, and even duck shoot. I don't want to big myself up, but I can proudly say that the aiming and shooting games are a specialty of mine. I won't tell Carina that, I don't want to ruin the surprise when I win something for her.

"Hi, can we have a go at the coconut throw? " I ask the stall person. We're handed 3 balls and had six goes to try and take down the coconuts. I purposely missed the first 3, in hopes that Carina would think I really sucked, of course I would win the game.. which I did. Carina looked amazed with the biggest grin I've seen. I finally got to choose a toy for Carina, I decided on a hippo since it's my favourite animal.

I have a plan to take Carina onto the Ferris wheel in hopes of kissing her properly for the first time, I really hope it works out. We walked on to try cornhole as I knew Carina had never played it, this was also the perfect opportunity to touch her.. in a totally non-intimate way of course.

"Come on, this is too hard. What's the point of this stupid game? Like why do you Americans enjoy games where you throw a beanbag thing into a hole.. that's so stupid " she exclaimed while I giggled behind her. The giggle didn't last long as she quickly turned around and stared me down.. I don't ever want to see that face again. I couldn't let my competitive side go, so I had already successfully thrown a few bean bags into her hole.

"Look, let me teach you okay? I'm going to stand behind you and help you aim. It really isn't too hard if you try!" I explained while handing her a beanbag and standing behind her. Lightly grabbing her waist and her arm and taking in her intoxicating perfume I'd never realised the affect it had on me until now. "Right so now I want you to loosen up a little bit and listen to me. I'm going to help throw this one, and if it goes in I want you to do something for me. Ready? " "Wait, what do you mean I have to do something? No, no that's not fair!" Of course, she'd fight me on the smallest thing. I pushed her back into position and counted down from 3. Boom! With my help, it went straight in.

"Why can I suddenly do it with your help? Are you hiding something from me Bishop? I can't believe it went it. I want to play this again; I know I'll beat you if you let me! I think you had nothing to do with this! Oh wait, what do I need to do? Don't make me do anything weird or disgusting, just because I'm a surgeon doesn't mean I can stomach everything..." I just stood in silence with a grin while listening to her rambling. I knew I had to interrupt her since the last time she started rambling, I think it went on for a straight hour.. I can't go through that again.

We kissed.. we actually kissed. It was a simple peck at first, she kissed me back! Our lips connected and suddenly there was stillness, something I haven't experienced in a long time. You could say I couldn't feel my legs but let's face it with the accident that's a bit too close to home.

We looked back at each other, gazing into each other's eyes with a light blush appearing on each other's cheeks. This time she went in to kiss me, this kiss escalated quickly, I grabbed her waist while she wrapped her arms around my neck.. I could get used to this.

CARINA POV

This kiss is different. I mean there was a connection, I know how very stereotypical am I! I wasn't expected it, honestly I hoped if we went on the Ferris wheel I could take that opportunity, I'm not complaining. The kiss ended when air was needed, I wish air wasn't needed. This is addictive.

A wolf whistle took us out of our world. As we looked around we saw Jack, a co-worker of Maya's. He seems like a good friend from what I've seen!

"Hey Maya, who's this? She's definitely better looking than what was her name? I thought you hated fairgrounds; you know you always said that they were ways local companies could raise the prices on cheap arcade games using pretty lights to entice you. You've obviously changed your opinion! " He exclaimed to Maya; I definitely understand why he would question her taking me here, but maybe I've come here with her to change her view?

"Hi Jack, this is Carina. I'm hoping she's going to be my girlfriend by the end of the night. It's our first date and so far I think it's going well. Yeah I don't really like fairgrounds but I saw it was on and thought that maybe Carina would like to go to one. Why are you here... alone?" Maya questions, and I just stand there with a blush on my face blocking out the rest of the conversation only thinking about her wanting me to be her girlfriend.

"Well, it was nice seeing you here. We're gonna go and play the duck shoot. See you on Monday!" Maya says which gets a quick nod from Jack before he turns around and disappears into the abyss of bright lights, smells and crowds of people. I'm still in my own world thinking about what Maya said.

"Hey, why are you smiling? Shall we move on? Shall we see if I can win something else? I have my mind set on a massive panda over there." she says while taking my hand in hers swiftly taking me out of my own world. I grin and nod and off we go to the next stop of the night. With one swift go at the duck shoot, Maya presents me with a massive Panda toy. How did she know pandas were my favourite animal? Have I mentioned them before?

MAYA POV

Time to go to the Ferris wheel, I'm hoping we can stop at the top and take on the surroundings at sunset. I sat closest to the door after helping Carina into the little pod we had. I took this opportunity to again make some sort of physical contact by putting my arm around her and she accepted it. We made small talk about the fairground while waiting for us to hit the highest point.

We slowed down to a stop at the highest point. Carina shifted forward as she took the views; I knew this was a good place to take her. She slowly gazed around the views before turning to me, I couldn't wait any longer, I craved another kiss. I needed to kiss her. Once again our lips connected and everything disappeared. I don't know how much time we spent in our own world but a loud clang separated us, helping us to realize the ride had finished. I helped Carina back off, grasping her hand as soon as possible and holding it the whole way back to my car.

Time to go to the next destination...
