TW:accidental murder

I slowly inhale, resting my fingers on the keys.
As I exhale, I hit the G key. From there, a sweet melody flows out from my piano. After a few seconds, I look over to my brother, signaling for him to start playing. Throughout his parts, he seems to be struggling slightly. I would prefer it to be better, which is why we're practicing for our rehearsal that's tonight. We're running low on time, so this will suffice. I'm still so proud of how far Sunny and I have gotten.

We finish the song with minor errors and we look at each other.

"Alright, that sounded good. You ready to try again?" I ask, smiling.

Sunny looks down as if he's scared to speak. He looks back up but averts his eyes, "Actually, Mari...um," he begins. "could we maybe... not try again? I mean- can we just ge-get dressed for the recital...? My fingers are starting to hurt from holding the bow so often."

"Sunny, the recital is in a few hours. We can't just get dressed and then stop practicing. There are still mistakes and we need to get it to the best we can, perfect if possible. I can give you a small break for water but that's all. Go get some if you need, but we're starting again after."  I say, resting my hands back on the piano.

"Mari... It's just that we've been practicing for so long on end and I'm... I'm not sure if I can anymore. I'm not making any progress and it just hurts..." he mumbled, refusing to look at me.

"Sunny, it's only for a few more hours. Of course you can do it. We're already running behind. If you need water, please hurry up."

"No, Mari. You don't-" He paused. "You don't get it. I can't do this anymore. I can't."

"Sunny, you can do it. You'll do fine. You're just stalling right now, we have to practice. We're not good enough yet, so just get into your starting position."

"No! You mean that I'm not good enough yet!" He yells. "I'm not perfect and I'm sick of you trying to make me push myself to make me reach that impossible goal!" His grip on his violin tightens as he runs out of the practice room.

"Sunny!" I scream. As I yell, I hear the front door slam.

I somewhat sigh and I quickly stand up and grab my jacket before rushing out the door.

While running down the street, I see Sunny turn the corner towards the park. At least I have a slight idea of where he's going before my knee pain catches up to me.

When I finally reach my friend's secret hideout, I hear wood breaking. As I look closer, I come to find that the sound was Sunny's violin.

"Sunny... What have you done?!" I furiously ask.

I walk closer while he replies.

"Mari... I- I didn't mean to. I just can't do this anymore and-and I got mad and I just threw it...! I'm sorry-" He explains hurriedly.

"So you broke something that your friends spent so much on just because you were angry?! The recital is tonight and now we can't perform because of how selfish you are!"

"Selfish? You were the one who had been pushing me past my limits just so your little- little show can w-work out! You forcing your perfectionism onto me is selfish!" Sunny rebutted through tears.

"You wanted to do this! I was just trying to help us put on a great performance!"

"I never wanted to perform! All I wanted was to be able to spend time with my sister because you were always so busy with your stupid piano!"

"Well, I am so sorry that I wanted to focus on my skills and do something I like!"

Sunny sniffles. "I-... I'm sorry. Can we just...," he pauses. "Can we just go home...?"

"No. We are going to stay right here and you are going to listen!"

His eyes widen before they relax again. "Let me go, I'm leaving. I'll- I'll see you at home..." he says, trying to walk past me.

"You aren't going anywhere!" I scream, pushing my dear brother into the pond.
