It's Not Easy

~Seven~

I stared out the window, my stomach in knots as I anxiously awaited going to Ben's parents for Christmas. Last night had been a complete disaster and I was still a little hungover. Finally, Ben's car pulled up in my driveway, I grabbed the bag of gifts and left my house, quickly hopping into the front seat.

"Merry Christmas!" I said happily, doing my seatbelt up.

"Merry Christmas, beautiful." Ben smiled, before backing out of my driveway.

"Happy Christmas." Haven mumbled from the backseat.

"Will you two pretend to be excited over Christmas?" Ben asked.

"Nope." Haven replied quickly, popping the p.

"What's wrong?" I whispered to Ben.

"I'll explain later." He sighed.

At Ben's parents house I was quickly introduced to too many people at once and barely remembered anybodies name. We exchanged gifts, I ended up getting all the adults wine because I had no idea what they liked, Haven and Alyssa both thanked me for my gift, but they didn't seem excited over anything today.

"So, Anastasia what do you do for work?" Ben's mom asked me, as I helps her set the table.

"Oh, I'm currently a massage therapist but I'm hoping to get into school so I can become an athletic therapist." I told her.

"Oh, so you pleasure people for a living?" She asked.

I felt a little uncomfortable at how she said that... She made it sound as though I was a prostitute. "Uh, I suppose so."

"I see." She smiled at me.

I glanced over at Ben who was deep in conversation with everyone in the living room, he wasn't going to save me. I sighed heavily and made the decision to say as little as possible for the rest of the night.

"Dinner was wonderful, thanks." I smiled at Ben's mom after sitting through a very loud discussion during dinner.

"Haven Elaine, why haven't you touched the turkey?" Ben's mother asked her.

"I don't eat meat." She grumbled.

"Since when? You need meat to grow." She argued.

"Look, I haven't eaten meat in almost a year." Haven snapped. "And I don't know if you realized but dad is a vegetarian too."

Ben's mother looked taken aback and just stared in shock at the teen. Haven took this moment to speak her mind.

"Also, why is she here?" Her voice was sharp and directed at me. "You've been dating for a couple months and you bring her to Christmas? Doesn't she have her own family to annoy with her damn presence? I can't stand her, and neither can Alyssa, in case you didn't already know that.

"Ever since she came in, you've been all about her. I'm sorry, I just thought your kids came first, especially when you're the only goddamn parent we know! I'll never like her, I don't care how many times you make us hang out or pay us to be nice to her. I'll never like her."

I kept my eyes on my plate, unsure of how to even feel right now.

"Haven, you need to go calm down." Ben said, his voice calm.

"No, I don't need to calm down. I need my dad back!" Her voice was shaking now and you could tell she was on the verge of tears.

"Haven, go upstairs and-"

"No, you don't get it! There is no calm anymore, you've completely neglected us. You didn't even notice my stuff was gone." She snapped.

"What do you mean?" Ben's voice sounded like it was on the verge of tears now.

"I'm leaving. It's not fair that your bitch comes before your own children." She spit. "So, I'm moving out."

"Haven, can we talk about this alone please?" Ben asked.

"Dad, you kind of did this..." Alyssa spoke up.

Haven ended up storming off after, locking herself in the bathroom. I ended up calling a cab and leaving while Ben was trying to talk Haven out of the bathroom. I couldn't be the reason his girls felt neglected, they should always come first... I'd just have to back off a bit.

A/N: alright so I guess this is a little better than it was before. I don't want Haven to sound like a spoiled brat, I hope that comes across.
