Hunger pooled in her stomach.
She felt it gnawing on her insides,
Eating away all sense of reason.
"Can I have that crumb?"
She begged.
"No."
It was thrown away.
Always no,
When it came to kindness.
"Are you going to eat that?"
She entreated.
"Yes,"
They gloated.
Always yes,
When it came to greed.
They asked,
"Can I have some?"
A pause.
The hunger was there.
It was her first meal in days.
And then, she remembered that one yes -that one no.
She handed a healthy piece over.

This piece is pretty personal. Food gets wasted everyday while there are children who don't get meals. I'm not saying I'm perfect, because sometimes this waste is my own doing. But I try to minimize it because I am slightly acquainted with hunger, and it is not a good companion. I try to share when another is hungry, because it's the kind thing to do. So remember this the next time someone asks you for food and you're feeling selfish. Kindness is something that's hard to forget, especially in the world that we live in today.
