I woke up, sweaty and pale.
It was the same nightmare over and over again for the past few weeks. The ravaging waves clashing against the mountainside. The beautiful meadows bursting with flowers and colours. Strong arms that wraps around me like a snake coiling its victim.
I should talk to a therapist.
Only if I could afford one. I thought bitterly.
I glanced at the clock to find out it was only 3 in the morning. I was going to close my eyes again when I saw something that made me sit upright in my bed in utmost fear.
I opened my mouth to scream just for the familiar stranger in bedroom to interrupt me.
"I would not scream if I was you." Lethal voice matching the piercing sky blue eyes.
My scream effectively died in my throat.
He stepped into the dim light as I shrunk further into my bed. His gaze turned cold and calculative as I looked at him in fear.
"What are you doing here. Who- who are you?" I finally found my voice and manage to croak out.
"If this is about the $40. I don't have it right now, but but I'll have it by the end of the week! When my pay comes." I pleaded.
He blinked at me in surprise.
"Have you not regained ur memories?"
"What memories?" A chill ran down my spine.
He pursed his lips in thought before sighing rather loudly.
"I'm sorry but I have already given you weeks to regain them." He muttered.
"And the reunion is tomorrow at dusk."
"What?" I tried to clamber off the bed as he thundered towards me.
But he was faster. With both of his hands, he clasped my face, tilting my head up, making me meet his enchanting gaze.
I screamed as lights filled my head.
-
I shivered as I woke up. I sighed in relief as I glanced around to see my bedroom empty. Maybe it was just another one of those fucked up nightmares.
However, as I tried to move my limbs I found myself to be completely paralysed. I tried to scream but only for a hand to cover my mouth.
"Shh. It won't be very beneficial to either of us if the cops were to come. Now I need you to not scream." Tears pricked at the rims of my eyes as I nodded.
What other choice did I have?
"Good. You cant move because showing you your memories took a toll on your body. Especially since you haven't fully awaken yet, your human body needs time to rest. Now what did you see?" He shifted behind me.
I was enclosed in his arms as he was propping me up against his chest to prevent me from falling. His chin bumping into the top of my head ever so gently. Although his hands never strayed, I found myself reddening at the intimate position.
"My past life." I managed to croak out.
He hurriedly pressed a glass of water to my lips. Tilting it back, I gulped the slow stream of water as it flowed down.
"Do you know who I am?" His eyes pressed for an answer.
"Zeus." I managed to mumble.
"Good. What else?" He waved dismissively.
I stared at him with my mind completely blown. I guess there are such things like magic.
"I am- was a servant of Athena. One of her maidens."
"Do you know your name?"
My silence was his answer.
"It's okay. You will remember more soon. Although this is strange. You seem far too weak compared to the others who have awaken."
I was embarrassed. Too be called weak by the King of Gods.
A part of me grows resentment for him, angry that he has taken me away from my normal, boring mundane life and thrown me into something that was bigger than I could ever imagine.
Another part was glad. Refreshed and thankful for his aid. Because without him, I would have never awoken.
I was in an internal turmoil and he could sense it.
"Do not fret, little one. It is normal to be at war with ur past self. Soon though, you will merge and become one."
Become one?
"I will have to go. To prepare for the reunion. But today at dusk, a car will come for you. You are to get in the car and come to the Kingdom. There, I can help you regain more of your memories."
He sat with me until the sun rose and I could feel my legs twitch. He did not tell me more than I can remember. For the fear that my frail human body will give up on itself.
Pressing a gentle kiss to my temple, he stepped outside.
-
I barely moved from the bed. I scrolled and scoured through the web to learn more about myself. Or more like the myths about me.
My eyes scanned my picture. It was almost too captivating. I had big green eyes and a round face with locs of snakes framing it.
Was I going to start growing snakes out of my head? My eyes widened in fear as my hands flew to my head.
The doorbell rang and I fell off the bed startled. Looking through the peephole, I saw a man dressed in white and red robes waiting.
I cautiously opened the door. He was staring at the ground, not meeting my eyes.
"For you from the King." He bowed, waiting for me to take the black parcel.
His eyes still firmly stayed locked onto the pavement.
"I will be back at dusk to collect you." He bowed again.
He closed his eyes as he straightened his back and quickly walked away.
Did he think I was going to turn him into stone? I tried to laugh it off but I cautiously avoided mirrors for the rest of the day.
