Chapter 3
I finally managed to drift off to sleep. It proved more difficult than I thought just because I couldn't get Michael out of my head. I laid on my bed starring at my ceiling and finally drifted off into dream world.
[A.N. Yes it was totally a cheesy line but eh]
I woke with a jolt covered in sweat, nightmares. I'd been having nightmares ever since I started to work at the hospital here. It was my first day...
*Flashback
"Elise, you need to get down here now, we need your help." A nurse ran by me sprinting down the hall, two more followed her. I'm not technically a doctor so I didn't see why they would need me. I'm only here to be with the kids, make it okay for them, almost like a therapist.
I followed the nurse to a room filled with lots of doctors and nurses. I snaked to the front and saw my first patient from earlier. He was a five year old boy, he came in with a fever and migraines but his parents couldn't figure out what was wrong. We decided it might be best to keep him over night just to calm their nerves considering we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him and deemed it a virus. But now...
He was screaming and thrashing around as if something was compelling him. His bones were all cracking and I remember doctors holding him down while nurses tried to out some knock out medicine in him. He kicked the nurse with such a force that she fell over. I went to the boy and tried to calm him down, after all that's my job! I walked over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder, he shuddered as did I, he was burning all over. I pulled away but realized that he was a little calmer when I had touched him. I placed my hand on him again, "Jacob, Jacob it's okay. Calm down bud you're gonna be fine, I won't let anything happen to you."
He looked me in the eye and his eyes opened wide, wider than they should have. He made one final jolt and his leg broke causing blood to flow. He screamed in agony and then it all just stopped. My first ever patient died that day, and we never figured out why.
*End Of Flashback
I closed my eyes and willed it all to stop. I had been having that dream ever since Jacob died. It was the weirdest death, we never found out what happened, it was like a seizure mixed with some other cause.
I crawled out of my bed and walked to my bathroom. It was only 5:30 in the morning but I was wide awake. I work at 7 so I could shower, get ready for my day and walk over to the hospital early. I'm not a workaholic or anything I just love my job and I love the people I work with. They make my day amazing.
Twenty minutes later I was standing at my door locking up. I was wearing a pair of scrub bottoms, a cancer shirt, a sweatshirt, and a pair of Asic running shoes. Throughout the day I tend to do a lot of running, that and I love my Asics. I had on a backpack purse so that I could run to work and not lose all my things. I got down my stairs and started out the front of the apartment building. Close to the hopsital was a little coffee shop I would go to for awhile. I didn't want to seem to eager to go to work!
I started to walk down the sidewalk to the stoplight. As I walked I noticed a car drive slowly by me, but not passing me. I walked faster and the car stayed with me, I began to sprint off in the way of a store. I wasn't about to get raped in some alley way by anyone. I ran into the store and started walking around so wouldn't draw too much attention.
I was looking at a birthday card when I felt a presence behind me, my heart started to beat very fast. "Hey, why are you running from me?" I turned around and practically hit his chest.
"Michael! Oh God I thought you were someone else!" I hugged him. Wait, what? He hugged me back, and when I began to pull back he help me tighter. I laughed and he let me go.
