She hurried her steps until she was ahead of Robin. Rolling her eyes, Robin stayed behind Faye and watched her practically skip through the mud. "You're like a child," Robin observed. Faye whipped herself around to face Robin with an offended scowl. "Am not!" She proclaimed, stamping her feet into the mud like a rhino set to charge.
Robin continued, walking past Faye, "Are too." Robin said, mocking Faye's childish response. Faye's nostrils flared, and she stomped over to Robin. "You are such a-!" Faye proclaimed, but Robin interjected, stopping Faye from walking past her with her arm. "Faye, be quiet, look...." Robin said with a dazed tone. Faye's face almost went entirely red. "Be quiet?! Dont tells me to be-!" Faye faced the same direction as Robin. The view stopped her angry chatter. "Wow..." Faye forgot her anger. They were both looking out to a vast, shimmering waterfall that fell into a large lake. They were standing right by the edge of the top of the waterfall. "This is like Niagara falls on steroids...."
Robin murmured. "Are those fish down there?" Faye pointed down towards the lake below them, where there seemed like a group of fish splashing around, except they had the upper body of a human. "Mermaids?!" Robin squealed. The group of mermaids heard her and hurried away through the water. "We should follow them! They might lead us to their home!" Robin exclaimed. She began to wade through the water, which had changed from just below their knees to slightly above their waists. "Really? That sounds like a plan I would make...." Faye questioned, but Robin did not hear her due to focusing on which direction and mermaids had gone. Faye shrugged and waded after Robin.
As they got further into the lake, it shifted into water covered in scattered patches of land, and a semi-thick fog had grown over them. The patches of land had short trees that shaded everything below them from the sun. Only tiny faint patches shone, being the only sources of light Faye and Robin had. "Robin... this is starting to get spooky. We should go back...." Faye trembled, wrapping her arms around her body. "We've come too far now, might as well keep going," Robin said sternly while shivering from the temperature. Faye gave a small gasp. "Look! A light!" she pointed in the direction of a distant glow, "Good eye Faye!" Robin complimented. Faye's face glowed from the compliment, and she hustled to catch up to Robin.
As they got closer, they could hear chatter from a mermaid group, which sounded very frantic. Faye stopped Robin from going into their view. "Wait, they ran away last time they saw us, let's just listen," She whispered. Faye and Robin listened in on the conversation.
