Fireworks.
That was the last thing ash remembered seeing before blacking out on the street of Tokyo.

Fireworks suddenly burst from the sky as Ash was making his way to work. Everyone turned to look at him, even himself. He was caught off guard by this sudden display
'it isn't even a holiday?' He mumbled to himself, confusion laced in his voice before looking around at everyone else's confused faces. No one stared for much longer before returning to what they were previously doing. It was Tokyo after all.

Ash groaned as he sat up and rubbed the back of his head. How long had he been out for? Clearly a lot time due to the fact it was now night time. Questions engulfed his brain though only one stood out the most;where had everyone gone? As he slowly stood, dusting the dirt off of his baggy jeans. He looked around at the empty streets. Even if it was 5 in the morning, there would still be people walking around or cars driving or at the very least a homeless person. What happened when he blacked out?

"What an unusual predicament I have found myself in." Ash mumbled to himself, reaching down and grabbing his green bookbag off the ground- though he halted his movements when there was a sudden bright light. He turned and stared at the bright billboard, reading the words written there.

"Join a game?" His eyes trailed for anything it would the board could be Hinting at. After a moment, his eyes landed on the only building that was lit up. It was a library.

He began to head in that direction while pulling out to check his phone. Was it dead? To be fair he left the house with only 20 percent but he hadn't been using his phone so he should still have some power left. He decided he will figure it out later and put the phone back into his pocket before entering the library.

He looks around and took not to the other five people in the room. A few people looked like they hadn't showered in days and why did they have cuts all over them? He then noticed the TV screen.

"Registration will close in one minute. Please grab a phone to register." He tilted his head and glanced at the table in front of him, which had a singular phone left. He looked at the sign 'one per person' it read.

Skeptically, he reached for the phone and watched as it did facial recognition. What the hell? He has never used this phone before so how did the facial recognition work? Before he could dwell on it any longer the screen on his phone as well as the TV changed

"Registration is closed. In total, there are 6 participants. The game will now commence. Difficulty, 5 of diamonds."

'5 of diamonds? Like the playing cards? Why does everyone look terrified? What does this mean?' Ash's thoughts were cut short when the phones let out a little melody. He looks back down

"Game, Chess. Rule, Be the winner. Clear condition win each game without making any mistakes. A game over will happen a player cheats, makes a mistake, loses, fails to make a move,fails to complete the games within the time limit , or incites any sort of violence. Time limit..3 hours."

Ash look around and was confused to find people crying, why were they crying? It was just chess? Chest wasn't even that hard.

The male shrugged and looked over at the now lit up part of the room, taking notice to the tables with chess boards set up on them. He began to walk over to the tables and sat down at one of them. He looked back at everyone else and they all slowly made their way over and began to group up. A woman, who looked to be in her mid thirty's, sat across from him. She had a weary expression. Why does she look so scared?

"Uhm..can you possibly explain to me what happened to everyone?" He asked as he moved his queen pawn to d3 before clicking the button on the clock. The woman silently watched as he did so.

"Everyone in Tokyo has disappeared. No one knows how or why. We have to play games to survive." She mumbled as she hesitantly moved her pawn to B6 before clicking her button on the clock.

Ash looked at her and furrowed his eyebrows. He tilted his head slightly as he began to think of his next question but that quickly came to a pause as he heard someone sobbing and begging for their life. Quickly he turned towards all the commotion. It was coming from an older man who looked to be in his early fifties.

"Please! Give me one more chance! I promise I won't-" the older man was silenced as a laser shot through his head. Ash stared with his eyes wide open, his mouth making an 'o' shape before he quickly covered his mouth and let out a small, barley noticable laugh.

'what. The. Fuck. Is that what game over meant?' he thought to himself as he looked at the person who the old man was playing against. It looked like a teenage girl, and she was now crying. He turned back to his own playing partner as she stared silently at the sight. Her eyes glanced back at Ash.

"Are you going to make a move? Or do you want to end up like that guy?" She asked, seemingly not fazed by the situation. He silently looked at the board before moving his king pawn to e4.

"So...what did you mean when you said that we had to play games to survive?" He asked as he pressed his time button and stared at the women who frowned at the board. She looked it over with care, obviously caring about where she put her next pawn.

"we get Visa's for each game we play. if our Visa's run out then we get a laser to our dead, like that old man." She murmured "and if you haven't noticed, you can also die in the games..and it looks like I'm about to die because it looks like you actually know how to play." She said with a laugh before looking at him. He looked back at her with an unreadable gaze "I think I'm done with my fight. Good luck kid." She spoke and pressed the button on her clock. Kei opened his mouth to speak but before he could get a work out, the Lazer struck the woman. Ash watched as he body slowly slumped over and into the floor. Ash covered his mouth in shock and began to quietly laugh, simply out of shock. He didn't know what else to do or how to react. This seemed like a weird dream but when he pinched himself, it only made him more conscious of the fact that he was, in fact, not dreaming. He hadn't realized he was still laughing until one of the other participants, a bald man, stood up and yanked Kei up by the back of his shirt.

"DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUCKING FUNNY?! PEOPLE ARE DYING AND YOU'RE LAUGHING?!" the man screamed in Ash's face which only made him laugh more, out of genuine amusement this time. Which only angered the man further.

'Who did this man think he was?'

Ash's thoughts were cut short as the man punched him so hard that Ash fell and busted his lip on the table corner. He let out a tiny groan and turned back to the bald man who now had a hole through his head. The man fell forward and ontop on Ash who quickly shoved him off. He looked around and back at the teenage girl who was screaming her head off causing him to roll his eyes.

"oh my god, can you shut up?"

The teenage looked at him and started sobbing even harder "HOW CAN YOU BE SO CALM AND EMOTIONLESS ABOUT THIS SITUATION?!" She screamed at him. He raised and eyebrow at her. He wasn't emotionless, He just didn't know these people, infact one the people who died just assaulted him! So why would he waste his energy on them?

Ash stared at her which only made her cry more. He stood up and walked over to the seat where he once sat in and motioned for the girl to sit in it. She only shook her head and sobbed more.

"we have to play or else the time will run out. There should at least be one surviver instead of None." He said blankly as he began setting the pieces up.

The girl started to hyperventilate which immediately annoyed Kei, but after she had calmed down, she sat and began to play with Kei.

It only took him three moves to get a checkmate.

The girl screamed, the word "cheater" was halfway out of her mouth when the laser shot through her skull. He stared silently at her glossed over eyes as she fell against the table.

"Congratulations. you have been granted a 5 day visa."
