And there they were now, the two Omatikaya brothers riding fastly as they made their way to the reef. Neteyam kept looking back at his brother, throwing water at him, making Lo'ak get mad every time he did so.
They both dove into the water starting now a fight between them, trying to hit the other as their Ilus spun in circles.
─ Bro! You almost drowned me there! ─ Lo'ak said as he got out of the water and gasped for air, Neteyam getting out at the same time as him.
─ You started! ─ Neteyam exclaimed starting to laugh.
Lo'ak rolled his eyes at his brother and pouted, making his brother laugh even louder. He then joined and laughed too, hitting his brother softly as he did so.
Neteyam suddenly stopped laughing and looked at the horizon, seeing the sky getting more and more orange as the sun went down. His gaze turned to a sad one, something that Lo'ak noticed quickly.
─ What's wrong? ─ he asked as he placed a hand on his brother's shoulder catching his attention.
─ It's nothing, don't worry. ─ he answered giving his brother a small smile, trying to cover his actual unhappy looks.
─ You can tell me, bro. It doesn't look like it but I actually worry about you. ─ Lo'ak said, now receiving a confused and funny look from his older brother. ─ I'm not saying that ever again.
─ You changed so quickly! ─ Neteyam laughed receiving a splash of water. Lo'ak then jumped on him trying to drown him again, making him laigh even more. ─ Ow! Fine I'll tell you! But stop this!
─ Okay, okay, tell me now. ─ he released his brother and called his Ilu, as so did Neteyam.
Both of them were now riding again, towards the reef as they were doing in the beginning. Lo'ak's Ilu was now next to Neteyam's, both swimming calmly as they played between them.
─ It's just that I'm worried about what happened... What would have happened if I didn't get Kiri out in time that day...? ─ Neteyam looked at his brother with his ears down, clear guilt in his eyes as they met the other's.
─ It wouldn't have been your fault... It happened out of nowhere, nobody expected that, you can't just blame it on you...
─ But I was almost late, all because I was keeping an eye on Tsu'kida...
─ But Tsireya told you so, it's normal you weren't paying attention to the rest then. ─ Lo'ak said placing a hand on his brother's arm, giving him a reassuring look as he gave him a small smile. ─ But why did Tsireya tell you to keep an eye on her anyway? I never got to hear what she told you.
─ She said that when they were little she stayed connected for hours, and when they pulled her away from the tree she still was kind of connected, in a trance or something... ─ Neteyam finally looked up at his brother, meeting directly with his concerned eyes.
─ That's weird, never heard of that happening to someone. ─ Lo'ak said as he slowly got his hand off Neteyam's shoulder, looking at him confused by what he heard.
─ Yeah, well I didn't help this time, it happened again... At least that's what I heard from Ao'nung, I haven't even asked her how's she doing. Man I'm a piece of shit. ─ Neteyam bit his lower lip as his eyes rolled to a side and his head went down, now staring at his reflection in the water with a furrowed expression.
─ Bro it wasn't your fault, how would you know what to do? ─ the youngest spoke grabbing his brother's attention, who looked up slowly with guilt on his eyes. ─ But you really should talk to her.
