After a few days we headed out, I was surprised that Emile left his butlers behind. We drove to a mountain that Emile claimed housed the previous curse wielders.
"This is so boring," Kayne said as we all left the car. Emile had rented a cabin for us to stay in while we waited to find them. "Why couldn't we have just been flown up there or something?"
"Because the only time to cure the curse appears to be a full moon. At least according to the timeline of when I was born. My birth was a few days after a full moon" Emile explained, he seemed to know more than he was letting on.
It was already beginning to get late, I could feel the ache in my teeth again. I made my way into the cabin following Emile, Kayne remained outside as he wanted to explore. Diane waited outside for Kayne.
"Is it almost time again?" Emile asked turning to face me. The cabin was bigger than it seemed on the outside.
I nodded, all this travel made me tired. I secretly hoped it would skip today but I knew it wouldn't by the persistence of the ache.
"Alright, do you wanna go back outside? I know it's pretty cold out there" he asked backing up to the sliding door. He really likes sliding doors.
I shrugged my shoulders and headed outside, I sat on the cold patio removing my coat and a few other articles of clothing. Emile stood in the doorway, "so I know you haven't attacked since that first night but should we stay inside?"
"I think as long as I don't smell fear like I did that day we should be fine," I said shoving the clothes away from myself.
"What does fear smell like?" He asked tilting his head at me.
"I can't describe it honestly, but it smells wonderful. At least it does in my beast form, in human form it makes my head hurt"
"Like standing in a candle isle for too long?"
"Exactly that"
"Hmm," he sounded interested but didn't press further. I was glad he was not as afraid of me but I could still smell it on him no matter how hard he tried to convince himself he wasn't.
Fur tore through flesh and I shed my human form, I stood awkwardly in the cold. I felt oddly stronger and more in control than I ever had been. Upon further investigation, I realized I was taller again, possibly an effect of the full moon?
I don't think I could fit in the door at the moment which meant I would have to sit in the cold. "Uh, Rem I don't think you'll fit," Emile said as he cautiously grabbed my clothes.
I grunted at him in agreement. "I wonder if the full moon is affecting you?" He said pondering out loud.
A could hear a ringing in the air, like a dog whistle. It made my brain hurt but it was pretty easy to ignore. However, the rhythmic thumping sound I heard afterward was hard to ignore.
Something, or someone, was approaching. And they were approaching quickly. I could smell the anger.
I gently coerced Emile into the house and closed the door before turning to face the mountain behind the house. The glint of eyes stared at me from the trees.
It growled at me, "this is my home why are you here?" I could understand it. This beast was like me.
Sadly I still had no clue how to converse in this form all I could do was attempt to look passive and hope it wouldn't attack.
Unfortunately, it took that as a challenge and leaped right for me. It grabbed hold of me and dragged us both over the ledge.
As we tumbled down the mountain I pushed it off. It jumped into the trees and I, unfortunately, kept falling down the mountain. I really should have learned to defend myself in this form, how stupid can one be to not learn to use this form in a way like this?
Yeah, that's right, I'm calling myself stupid as I plummet to my death. What a life to live. Lived terribly, and died horrifically. I wonder what kind of news story they will report on me.
A giant beast dies after falling down a mountain like an idiot.
I did attempt to save myself but the ice and snow made everything slippery. I took out some trees on my way down before hitting solid ground. It all went dark.
