The sunlight mixed with the ringing in my ears and the yelling of my name awoke me at the bottom of the mountain. I was badly scraped up and freezing cold but otherwise alright.
Based on the sounds I could hear my family searching for me had been looking all night, they sounded cold. I couldn't smell much of anything and everything sounded a bit muffled.
No matter how much I tried I couldn't get up, I couldn't speak. Everything hurt. Was I truly to die like this? I don't want to die, I'm so close to finding a cure so I can live a normal life.
What even is normal? Have I ever had a normal life? I fought for my freedom from my rich parents and brother only to lose them and leave him behind. Not long after I left home I gained this strange ability and met Kayne.
And now Emile, the one person I wanted to avoid for the rest of my life, is trying to help me.
Based on my surroundings I could tell it was just now sunrise, I have been out here for a while. I wondered if the cold is why I can't move.
I could barely look around but I found myself in a clearing of trees. And the sounds of voices were getting closer.
"Rem!" I could hear Emile calling out very close to me. If only I could signal him somehow.
I remembered that on my way down I took out some trees, maybe he would see that. And to my surprise he did. A welcome surprise.
"Rem!" He exclaimed sliding in the snow right up to me. "Thank god you are alive!" He said as he pulled out his phone.
I would have let out a sigh of relief but it hurt to breathe so id rather not. He sounded frustrated at his phone before shoving it back into his pocket.
"Dammit, my phone is dead. Can you get up?" He asked, he was already examining me. Most of the clothes that I still had were torn to shreds by the fall so it wasn't hard to see if I was bleeding or not. Clearly, I was based on the panic in his breathing and how quickly his heart was beating. I could feel all of it as his hands gently grazed against me.
"I'm going to try to gently move you okay?" He said attempting to prop me up. He was unsuccessful but it was nice of him to try.
As I said previously I strangely seemed to gain muscles and mass I had never had before. I never even tried to gain muscle I was always a very lazy person before this all happened. Clearly, my tiny brother was no match for that.
Wait a second, why is he smaller than I remember? I wasn't in my beast form anymore why did he seem so much smaller?
I heard more footsteps approach as Kayne slid down to us as well. "Rem! Emile!" He exclaimed. He nearly crashed into us, but he didn't care. Neither did me or Emile.
"Help me get him out of the snow Kayne," Emile said once more attempting to prop me up.
Kayne did it without issue and lifted me onto his back with Emile's help. Emile snatched Kayne's phone from him and called Diane. "D, we found him. He's still alive, we're on our way to the path can you move the car closer to the base of the mountain trail? Thanks"
I felt so helpless and Kayne felt so warm. Emile placed my jacket over my back and Kayne carried me to the trail.
There it was, Emile's car. Emile and Kayne stuck me in the back and Emile sat with me. He began to clean my wounds as best he could in the car on the way back to the cabin.
Whatever wounds I had seemed to be healing now that I was warmer.
I closed my eyes and found myself on the couch with Emile watching me from the chair next to it. I felt better than I had when I last woke up. A pain in my throat let me know I was not to speak still.
