LOVERBOY

I went back home once I knew Lola was safe.

My mind flashbacked to four hours back, my hands placed firmly on her hips, and how her ass felt pressed against my groin.

The next day, I waited for Lola in my car, when she finally walked out.

She took her books in one hand while locking the door to her apartment, her backpack bounced up and down, and she lip-synced to a song playing on her headphones as she walked down the street, heading downtown to the library. I followed her in, and went to stand next to her. I took "We Meet Again" in hand, flipping it around in my hand, "You look lost."

My heart dropped when those words came out from beside me. I turned to her looking back at me, I chuckled before saying, "Yeah, just,um- just looking around."

"Are you shopping for your girlfriend?" She asked.
"No! I'm single." I let out an awkward laugh, "Single and ready to mingle." Ready to mingle with you, "Have you ever read this book before?" I asked.

"Yeah, two lovers that just can't make it work, cried my eyes out." She laughed. "Anyways, I gotta get going, I-I have to study." She walked away holding two books in hand.

"Hey!" I called, and she turned around, "May-maybe when you have, um, when you aren't studying, we could get a coffee, and talk." She smiled.

A small smile showing off her white teeth to me, just for me, expressing the most vulnerable emotion, happiness, just for me.

"You know," Her headphones fell to her neck. "You can help me study, you know stellar dynamics?" She laughed. I took her books in hand, and paid for them, she refused to at first, but finally gave in.

At first, she would talk and write down some numbers, then I would ask her about something. Finally, we ended up just talking, "Wha-what is that anyway?"

"I am an astrophysics major at Columbia," She said proudly.

"So, you are smart-smart, huh?" I laughed.

"How about you, huh? Don't tell me you're a business major please."

"No, I-I'm actually a psychologist."

"Oh, wow! Can you read my mind?" We both laughed, "What's your name, telepathic wizard?"

"You may call me Professor X" I exclaimed mocking a king's voice. We both laughed as the whole restaurant stared at us, "My name's Lola Kaczynski." I extended my hand out to her, "Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Lola." She laughed once again. She tucked her hair behind her ear as I stared endlessly at her.

I fell in love with Lola Kaczinsky.

I fell in love with her happiness, how she lit a room with just her smile, that never left from her cheeks.

I fell in love with her ginger hair, and how it falls covering her face, waiting for me to tuck it behind her ear.

I fell in love with how smart she was, I mean, astrophysics? I don't even know what that is.

I fell in love with her eyes, how they sparkled even at night, like the stars.

No, not the stars. Stars die out. Her eyes are like the galaxy desperately trying to come out. There was nothing about Lola Kaczynski that I didn't fall in love with that day.

We talked until her phone rang, Ben. She motioned to answer, but pressed the hang-up button, "You aren't gonna get that?" I asked.

"Nah, it's okay. They probably want me to go partying or something." She laughed.

"I'm sorry, but the manager wanted to tell you that we are going to close in twenty minutes if you would like to sign your receipt." The waitress approached, "Yes, um, sorry, didn't realize how long we were here for." Lola searched through her purse.

Did she really feel time going by fast? Did she enjoy spending time with me so much that she didn't even notice we were sitting here for three hours? The sound of her purse being placed on the table snapped me back to reality, "No, I-um, I got it." I said rapidly, pulling out my wallet.

"No, I-You paid for my book, the least I can do is pay twelve dollars." She insisted. I handed the cash to the waitress, "Take it." I said and shook the cash. The waitress took it in her hand, and walked away, "You really didn't have to."

"But I wanted to." I stared into her eyes as she shyly smiled, and tucked hair behind her ear, "Wanna go somewhere else?" I requested. She nodded.

I took her books in hand, and we ran out of the cafe to the park.

"I have never been at the park past four pm." She confessed, "Didn't know it was this dark."

"Why not? Don't you love the fear of being robbed or the smell of piss?" She laughed, "Wait, does that actually happen?" She said seriously. I laughed and nodded, "But only if you're a tourist...or a cute redhead walking alone."
"Good thing I'm not alone."

Lola and I walked under the lamppost all the way to Saint Angel's when she turned to me, "I have to get going, I had a great time."

"Wo-would you like me to walk with you?" I asked, "These books are pretty heavy, and a redhead walking alone could get robbed." She laughed.

I walked her home, and handed her her books, "Thanks...for the books, and all of it." She smiled. I was walking away when she called, I turned to her, "How about we get something to eat sometime?" She proposed. I nodded.
