This was just a short story that I published on Tumblr a while ago which I finally dug out and figured I should also publish here. Please keep in mind this was just an attempt to get me out of my writing slump (; ̄ー ̄川
Universe: Never left
* * *
The very first time it happened, Shinyo didn't even notice it.
Not because he doesn't care, really, it's quite the opposite. Still, it's hard to listen to what your kid is mumbling into your shirt when your priority is to fly you both to safety far away from the villain of the week that decided to coincidently attack the city right when Shinyo was there with his son.
It was an open area and Shinyo could barely react fast enough to grab his son and shield them with his wing because he thankfully heard it coming. And now he needs to ignore the sharp pain shooting through his left wing and get his son to a place where he will be safe, and he won't stop until he reaches it.
Finally, he deems that they are far enough to not get caught in whatever mess the stupid small fry villain decided to make, and lowers them both to the nearby roof.
"Heya Eyas, sure hope that big Pillock didn't scare ya. Don't worry at all, Daddy is here, you're good, yeah?" He looks over his boy just in case, there are no apparent injuries on him but Shinyo refuses to risk his kid's health just because he's "pretty sure."
"Dabba!" The child giggles, looking up at his father who sighs softly. Those beautiful big golden eyes staring at him tugged his heart in a way nothing ever did. He didn't recognize this feeling, didn't even have the words to describe it. Love doesn't feel big enough. One word isn't big enough to explain what he holds in his heart for his son.
"You're all good baby feathers." He presses a small kiss on his temple.
"Were you scared kid? It almost gave your daddy a heart attack too. No worries though, your daddy is too fast for someone like that."
"Dadda."
"Yes, I am—" Suddenly his voice gets choked up with emotions, and when he looks back down at his kid, his heart feels like it will jump through his chest.
"Wait— Kei, repeat it, you said Dadda, say Dadda again." Keigo blinks at him. Shinyo feels disappointment curling in his stomach for a moment, scared that he heard it wrong or Keigo won't know to repeat it, but then his chick chirps and Shinyo melts.
"Dadda!" He stares at his kid with his jaw hanging open and his eyes going misty. Oh boy, he didn't expect that at all.
Carefully cradling his boy closer, he smiles.
"Yeah baby, I'm your dadda."
