Z-Dog was woken up by Lyle for the next watch and stood up sighing. Tired, she looked around as she walked toward her post. Then suddenly the soldier noticed her colonel. He was lying quite close to y/n. Too close for her taste. She eyed them both and didn't know what she should think. Maybe it was just for security reasons who knows? Shrugging her shoulders, she sat down.
-

I woke up and blinked cautiously. But this time no sunbeams came towards me because it was still in the middle of the night. Sleepy, I turned around to the other side and was startled soundlessly. I could not believe my eyes and was suddenly wide awake. Miles was lying not far from me, his eyes closed and breathing steadily. He actually seemed to be asleep. Never had I seen him in such a vulnerable moment. I forgot my anger at him for a moment and looked at his face. He looked so peaceful and nice. Kind of pretty? My hand was already moving to his upper body but I quickly pulled it away. Horrified by my thoughts, I turned around again and slid quite a bit away from him. Then I noticed a single seed of the soul tree approaching. Full of surprise I watched it coming closer and closer. Slowly it floated towards me. No, it flew by. Confused, my eyes followed the shimmering wonder. It floated towards Miles and sat on his forehead. My mouth fell open. "Eywa." I whispered softly. "But-." For a brief moment it remained seated until it flew away again. I was speechless and completely confused. CH

Exhaling, I lay down again. I tried to calm down and closed my eyes. Some time passed and I fell asleep again.

-
Hours passed during which almost all the soldiers were asleep. The Colonel was the first to wake up. Blinded by the sun, he raised his hand to her. He blinked and looked around. Everything was quiet nothing happened. His eyes wandered to y/n and grew large with a small shock. Facing in his direction, she lay quite close to him. They were almost touching. He hadn't laid that close to her body, though. He quickly regained his composure and stood up with a jerk. "Morning boss." The soldier who had the last watch was already packing everything up. With a short clearing of his throat he nodded to him. Miles hoped that no one had noticed the short distance between him and y/n.
-

I was awakened by loud laughter and clattering objects. Annoyed, I tossed and turned until I decided that there was no point in going back to sleep anyway. "Good morning sunshine." Laughed Z-Dog provocatively. Sighing, I got up and rubbed my face. "What's wrong?" I watched the soldiers running wildly. "We're packing so we can move right along." I nodded in understanding and scanned the crowd for Miles. Not a moment later, I spotted him among the many banshees. He was standing by his own, strapping down all the luggage. As I looked at him, I thought about what had happened tonight, but I still couldn't forget what he had done.

...

Hours had passed and again we trotted through the dense forest of Pandora. In the middle I ran between the others, who spread out in their formation to be able to search more area. I had to make quite an effort to keep up with their long legs. All the soldiers had their weapons on and were extremely alert. I almost had to grin. All this was not necessary if one behaved correctly.

...

"Boss, I've got something!" I heard Lyle call out, who was about 100 meters away. Miles came running from the other end and gestured for us to come with him. "I think we got it." I heard the bald pride say. "No way!?" "Really!?" The soldiers were talking wildly. I didn't know what they were talking about, and I couldn't see anything through their bodies standing in the way.

"All right, marines, fan out and search everything within 400 meters!" As Miles gave the order, the avatars disappeared from my view and I could make out a large yet small metal building. Only me and Quaritch were present now and there was silence. I looked at him briefly, but my gaze wandered back to the building in front of us. Something stirred in me that had been buried deep in my brain for a long time. Hesitantly, I moved forward.

"What is this place Miles?" As if by reflex, I asked him that without much thought. Moments passed in which I got no answer. "An unregistered lab." "I see." Was the only thing I gave back. I was too absent-minded.

Slowly I went up the stairs and had the very strong feeling that I had been here before. I noticed that Quaritch was following me but ignored it. I opened the rusty door with a creak. "I've been here before..." "I know." As soft as the words were that came out of his mouth, I understood them. An uneasy feeling arose in me.

There was so much stuff in the lab, and then I got scared. There were corpses everywhere that were already so decomposed that only skeletons were visible. I heard Miles holding his breath. Slowly I walked through the corridors until I arrived in a large room, also with countless corpses. To the right and left were two huge round containers. In the middle of the room was a kind of table.

Scenes flashed before my mind's eye. Memories I thought long forgotten. I saw Miles approach the table and press a few buttons. Nothing happened. "What are you going to-." I was startled when suddenly a picture flashed up in the middle of the room that was able to move. A man could be seen looking directly into the camera and started talking. People were hurriedly walking back and forth in the background.

"Experiment NiH3 has failed. We did not achieve the desired results. Instead, we have now created an almost three-quarters human-Na'vi species. The object carries 30% of the Na'vi DNA and is therefore not a complete human. Except for the stripes, the braid, and that it can breathe both kinds of air." The person took a short breath. Like a statue, I stood there staring at the man. "We don't know how to proceed with NiH3. We don't have any more necessary resources to start a new experiment." The man rubbed his forehead. "A kill would be the best I guess...I need to think." The image went black and I looked in shock at Miles. He pressed a button again and a picture appeared again.

-
The Colonel watched y/n while she watched the video. He could not interpret her look. He actually felt sorry that she had to watch it. He tried to keep his compassion, which was so unlike him, under control.
-

"NiH3 has grown and is developing normally. We- Hey what are you doing?!" A little girl came rushing into the picture excitedly. It hit me like a blow. The child looked like me. I tried to concentrate. "Sorry Professor." A woman came rushing in and took the girl away. This professor sighed and kept talking but I could hardly listen. The next moment a loud noise rang out in the video and the man abruptly turned around. "Shit who left the door open! Shut the-!" Suddenly you could hear panicked confusion and the man started gasping for air excitedly. The people in the background did the same. I put my hand over my mouth in shock. A few moments passed and the people had fallen to the ground, powerless. Dead silence reigned, literally. The image disappeared.

I still stared at the place where the professor had just been seen. Trembling, I held on to the nearest object. "Was- was that me?" Quietly, hoping it wasn't, I asked Miles. But actually, I already knew the answer. "Y/n it- yes." Horrified, I looked around and my eyes filled with tears. I took a deep breath in and out. "Did I kill those people, or something. Am I- am I an experiment?" Miles didn't give me an answer to that. "Oh Eywa..." I wiped the scattered tears from my face but still managed to pull myself together. "Y/n I-." "No just go." I said calmly, trying to sound normal. I saw Miles open his mouth again. "No I said just go. Leave me alone for once! Once!" I shouted this time and more tears gathered in my eyes.

In fact, I didn't expect him to actually leave the room, but he did. Even if only reluctantly. Lost I stood there and did not know what I should feel. I was an experiment. I was not born, no I was created. I had no biological parents. They wanted to kill me. I had killed those people when I was a child.

The thoughts raced through my head. I could not hold it back any longer and I let myself slide powerlessly to the floor. Silently I burst into tears and cowered in a corner.

I had to process all this first...
